Just got hull delivered DE1040 Garcia
The hull made by scale shipyard in California arrived n it is perfect. This is the ship I served on 65-67 right after it was built n moved to east coast. I worked ECM on the ship. I will build it as it was after changes made at Boston shipyard. It will be RC powered. I have a lot of pictures of details from a cruise. Suggest anyone looking fir scale ship parts n hulls go to scale shipyard in California.

Creole Queen by Dumas build
Slowly sanding n glueing. Figure several more months work. Iโm in California for the Grammys February so Iโll loose one or two months on west coast. I will glue main deck to hull next. Then set up paddles. Once that is done Iโll paint the cabins and attach them. Next will be railing n stairs ( assembled stairs already). I might get to pick material fir window curtains today. Hull came out nice. Iโll put rudder tubes in tonight. It is a lot of work. I need to clean shop floor of wood n dust accumulation tonight. Best model to build fir winter months. I still work as I own company but find relaxing on ship at night relaxing. I did ladders last nite while watching tv.

Sorry to hear Colin. We are 83 n been fortunate in health. Feel 60 btw. Been visiting hobby shops here. Bought a lot of 1949-1970 old kits Iโll resell. Mostly aircraft Comet, monogram, strombecker , megow etc. a few ships that you carve. Enjoying life n ship building. Having my sons pool helps enjoy n float RC ships Hope it all works out there. Cheers

On west coast in Hollywood area this n next mint. My son has a large pool so I can sail n test ships. Working on Benckart ship. Instructions non existent just pics. No pics of many parts in brass n plastic. I looked at vids. Still more questions on assembly n details. I made many guesses n still had left over parts. Progressing nicely. The prop n motor assembly are full of questions. Even hooking the rudders is a make it up experience. Good parts but lousy instruction manual. Rudder hook up is all wrong and needs a L shaped Arm to servo. Several times get wood parts together n find they are wrong. Iโll going to paint when a few more railings done. Havenโt joined deck n hill together yet to fix rudders. I left motor back home so Iโll add it n drive in future. Have new radio n servo I brought here. If local hobby shop has a motor Iโll pick it up or maybe look on Amazon. Back home my Krick Vll Sub awaits assembly. Again a German company with lousy instructions. But good builders with STL files for proper parts. Well off to the pool to test n play.

Also there comes can safely be disposed in your garbage or buried in ground. Lipos are a hand grande n need to be handled in same way carefully. Btw the insurance fixed the house better than before fire but we did loose collectibles, ships n planes.

Before Sony bought them A123 was an early manufacturer. They had the r&d lab in next town. I got friendly with the engineers. I tested the early ones for RC aircraft. Then later in life I got to work with BYD of China. They made the elect car before Tesla and electric busses. They were doing the busses in CA where they had a large plant. I have been using those type batteries in hobby use. A123 provided many electric screwdriver companies with batteries. We got hold of the packs n separated the cells. They are safer than lithium poly in that they donโt have volatile liquids. I still have some n they still charge just fine. One word of warning: I did use lithium poly in very large packs for a large scale plane. I had 2 packs ( this was before vendors forced to have safety circuits). I charged on n then thought I was charging another. It was same pack. With no over voltage circuitry in chargers then it exploded. House went on fire. $500k in damages. I was visited by federal n state fire marshal n investigators. New rules on chargers came out soon after. So I only use smaller Lipos. Moral of story watch what your doing when charging n do it outside of house basement!

Iโd that 3D printed? Where can I get files? Nice beginning. The stabilizer fins I like that. Had them on real Navy ship. It helped during a hurricane crossing the Atlantic. The one on left I had non working stab find. I have servos n could have made them like rudders or ailerons. I even have gyro board. Kick myself on not thinking of that.

Maybe we modelers can buy it n move it? A buddy bought gyrocopter company, moved it n is doing well. It coukd be a great partime deal. Another buddy owns Glencoe Models. Bet we could share space. I live in suburban Boston area. We have few model shops left here. On line sales are mostly selling. I wonder if they would be interested in a deal to save the brand n its history?

I have a glue from Germany that shoujd work better. CA to plastic can have problems used over a wide area. A contact type cement works too. Iโll have to dig the tube from Germany out. CA is ok on wood to wood or anchoring small plastic parts. If using CA n quick freeze on large area plastic it can heat n warp or distort it. Also the plastic like a sub deck rough it up with sandpaper too.

Nice pics. Did u get the Nuro virus? It gastro intestinal. Basically from shit. In resturants itโs usually on plate or utensils. An employee got it on hands n transmits it. Hand washing not the covid alcohol stuff works. Soap n water washing a lot. Can last a week n no fast cure as its viral n has to work itself out. We have on toilet a bidet spray thing. Cleans butt n paper just used to dry. It kept the transmission down a lot. Got it on line but did get a Toto one thatโs super even heats seat, washes n drys as well. Howard Stern a radio DJ recommended it n we got two of them also. Enough med advice im touching up my uncles ships, couple transporting blips. Also waiting on a new tugboat kit. The one my son got for me in Leeds UK, Leeds Hobby shop, awaits me when I get to California Feb or spring. Iโll post building both tugs. โน๏ธ

I used to use other brands but years back I started using spektrum. I have a DX6 with all my planes n ships on it. I just bought a new transmitter Radio Link (see pic) for when Iโm doing ships in LA California. It came with 2 receivers and has a trigger n knob for cars. 6 channel so it has switches located on the body. With a handgrip n even a video screen. I paid $80 for it. I can put FPV video on the transmitters monitor. It is sitting next to bench as I havenโt used it as itโs getting shipped when we go out west. I havenโt used my Xmas present waiting for me there. My son bought from Leeds Hobby shop UK while on tour there with Chappel Roan band. Iโll bring new glue he hit in Germany fir wood to plastic and new CA bottle. I havenโt used esc n servos all set to shop. Iโll be there for a month n build the model there. He has a pool I can run it in n ballast test it in too. Happy new year from Massachusetts USA!

Thank you. He was building hills n ratlines with patience I didnโt inherit. He never got into RC but in 1950โs did control line. He built airplanes then with O&R gas engines. I wish I saved kits he gave me when I was a kid. Glue then was heavenly, haha. We both built the Sterling Scout ship but he detailed it better than I. I was looking at his last night the cargo hold covers were not glued. He did glue superstructure so RC is out. Iโll make a case n exhibit it in our front hall with my other Military 5 ft ships and Creole Queen. Next trip my Aunt may part with more of his ships. I wonder where all his plastic ships went? He had just about every model ever made from 1965 on? Thanks again all. Keep hobby alive. Btw 2nd Hand Hobbies in Norton MA I discovered n visited last week. May be a source for ships n planes to sell n buy, ask for Matt tell him DEVO sent you! He will treat you right. He is trying to keep our hobby alive.

Acrylic paint set had I known he could have taken that too on checkout. The sales guys were really nice. They should have told him. Tnx for info. Has any member here built this tug? I was wondering about the wood to plastic glue. CA can cause plastic sheet to melt at times. White glue isnโt water proof but maybe titebond or epoxy if I rough plastic a bit? Iโm also going to try using a jewelry welder I bought my daughter. She has a jewelry store in town but still likes solder. Iโm thinking railings to weld them. It is for metal n brass parts. That way I camp parts n weld then move on down the railing. Solder is a messy pain n I usually make a jig for it. Anyone use this type welder?

I had same bust. Opened it up n did a servo on rudder. The water pump I took all apart n cleaned. It did work. See if a seal is bad? Redid led lighting and it worked with spektrum receiver n a solid state switch from eBay. I used an old Esc I had and replaced motor. Once back together it looked ok n ran well. Sold it on eBay a year back.

When my son was 4 in 71 I think I had the Vic dune buggy. I converted it to RC but somehow it only made left turns. We ran it a few times in parking lot. In 65-66 at Newport RI navy base pier I that the PT 19 cox. It actually worked on control line for three circles. On 4 th I tried landing. Well it landed but lost prop n cracked a little on body. The concrete pier my ship Theo had a few observers. Later I got into RC and had better landing skills. Yes the fuel smell and hard starting of the .049โs. Graduated to 35 n 50 sized which was easy with electric starter.

Too bad my son left UK last week. He picked up a model at Leeds hobby shop. He was with a major band touring Europe. He could have brought it back with the gear. He complains the ship he got me cost extra $76 in tariff charges. He is at VMA in NY then back to LA after it. Maybe next UK tour Iโll ask if anyone is selling near the gigs

My uncle n I both did the Sterling freighter. I lost mine in house fire. My uncle passed a couple months ago. I will be driving to his home and take the ship n more stuff as he wished me to soon. I built the freighter twice n Missouri once in my long life. I loved building them. If I had to do again Iโd use more modern glues, fiberglass n paints. Lots of hull saw dust work!

Iโm trying to get the hobby shops n events for areas they will be in. Iโm still amazed at the Leeds hobby shops n events inventory. Nice job on this model. Anyone remember a few decades ago a hobby shop not far from Manchester Abby hotel? The facility guy there took me to his house. His garage was all giant airplanes. I mean really big ones. Also we went to a small hobby shop nearby too. I donโt been try never name but bought some stuff n took it home in luggage. I did same in Istanbul. They had a lot of plastics that came from Russia n Poland. I bought $100 worth n stuffed into a large suitcase with computers that I brought into Turkey. Entering USA the immigration guy opened it. Looked at it. Closed it and said I donโt want to know keep going!

My son is in your with A band he is the front of house sound. Grammy winner with Miley Cyrus and there with Chappel Roan. He calls me at 8:39 eastern time he is in front of hobby shop. He goes in n dies face time. I look up the web site. He roamed there floors with me on FaceTime. I have never seen so much RC models n RC boats. We focused on kits. One of the owners? cane over n helped him. Once we got the right area I couldnโt remember the Huntsmen boat name. Last I left him he was in need of the restroom. He was going to pick out something. He will bring it back in the tour gear box. You have no idea how we here need hobby shops like that again! My kids will be back when next tour hits Leeds. I think itโs the Devo tour. Shoujd get a call later as to what he bought
