I served aboard USN Lorikeet MSCO-49 in early 60’s. My uncle served too aboard and was my boss as navigator. I was helmsman. It was parked next to the Colgate clock sign in NJ side of Hudson River in NYC. I wanted to build a model but my uncle told me Calypso was made from a MSCO. I got that kit for a few hundred on eBay. I started with the hull. Had to redo the bow. Did the deck. I redid with wood n plastic card the wheelhouse and engine room. After that just did detailing. I also did kit bash of a smaller model years back but the calypso really went well just went backwards in time. Hope this could help I still have pics of the real one but there is a lot online. The mine sweeping gear I know n used to set up. I knew every inch of that ship.

Do you still have the hammock STL file? I was going to move from my DE 1040 to the constitution. The big Revell kit. I got free from hobby shop that closed in Dec. the basic hull was built n some mast parts. I have a Flashforge 3D printer. Your ship is magnificent way past my patience level.

Had house fire with Lipos too in 2006 I wasn’t allowed them in house for a long time. A battery manufacturer gave me lion to test A123 batteries bought out by Sony then LG. They are as you stated heavier n diff voltage. With better chargers n taking care I went back to Lipos. Still have Lions around. I don’t do any big battery packs like before tho. 2 n 3 cell 600 mah to 2300 mah. I’m more carful n use a ceramic jar to store them. I’m using dry cells in my sailboats n Nicaea in transmitter. My house burning cost $500,000 in repairs n rebuilding. Did rebuild in 6 months. I still have new nicad pacs around too but they are just in a storage box

When in Hollywood a few weeks ago for Grammys I passed by Warner brothers. It was totally flat, all this section was gone. This area housed the back lots that were investor movies. All gone. By the time I was leaving 2 months passed and they had started building foundations. Nobody knows if it’s studios or just offices or a shopping mall. The main warners area with the water tower is still intact. When I got home to MA where two houses were now stands an apartment complex almost built. It seems you can only rent not own houses anymore. Houses are bought up n rented or turn down to add multi family buildings. Lakes we used to float boats now are part of private complexes. Only a town owned park n lake are left near me. Model plane airfields are also fast going away. I have one club field and school yards to fly in. My uncle is 95 n builds ships. He is in NY. No place to run them there. Our town flying field was lost years ago. It became a soccer field for private club. I’ll just keep building but I’m running out of places to store them. I liked the bad landing n crashes it made space. I’m making a trip Friday to another state to go to a hobby shop n stock up. Cheers keep the building hobby alive

So far I’m almost done. After lot of 3D printing n parts buying I think it’s almost done. I have rails n helo safety nets ready to paint. Last will be repairing n touch ups here are pics of the 1040 DEcGarcia. I also have pucks of the 1052 it was given to me before our local hobby shop closed for good in December. I added 3D guns n ASROC. Call added few more details. I also got when shop closed a Cutty Sark n Constitution large sized plastic. Constitution is located here in Boston MA. I had been aboard a few times. Both are partially started kits. Plenty to do. Now back from Hollywood where I built a few plastic ships and went to Grammys. Here are some pics

Looks like all countries are getting the element dumped into. In USA illegals are taking over buildings, community centers n now we are being asked to take them home. From what I see hobby shops will be reducing in number and the ponds are not safe to even visit. I guess worst is the Pubs will be closing soon for good as the illegals grow in number. I’ve been trying to keep the hobby alive. Jan1 we lost the only hobby shop in Massachusetts in the eastern area. Now I’m forced to do internet buys. That is nice but I like to get advice n take home what products I see n need. The world is changing fast, I hope it will all end well n we can get the hobby ignited again.

I have my grandsons 3D printer he is too busy being a filmmaker n musician getting ready for college. His dad is in Band DEVO n uncle is Grammy nominee for Miley Cyrus I’m in LA but going back to Boston Monday Grammys were fun. Any time I can do a 3D I love doing it. Always glad to make parts for anyone. My kids n grandson was in Europe touring with band back in summer. I love UK, Manchester, Plymouth and London. My last time in Manchester I did a tour of hobby shops n bought some nice stuff. If any of you are in boston get in touch

Try get a decoy duck n motorize it. It’s better than a ceramic pitcher. eBay has them. Put a water pump on it n scare other boats away

I found in past transmitter too close to receiver. I bought a cheap servo tester it lets u set up servo without radio. If it works there it isn’t servo. I think on eBay about $20-25 bucks. It’s a small package with a knob n switches Basically oc board with a plastic wrap. I use 4 AA batteries plug it in then servos n can zero them n test its movement. Had mine for years. Also Spektrum has a capacitor noise reducer plug in but never found it needed.

Impressive research n ship. You must have lots of patience. I build planes as well and military ships but even a plastic HMS Victory 1:180 scale is frustrating enough. Pic part built not painted yet I can’t wait for rigging frustration. Masts not glued in nor rear deck. It’s just a kit I bought to keep me from getting bored while visiting Hollywood. Like my Rc sail boat better.

When Bounty was in San Juan Puerto Rico I met the lady who was the boson mate. Years later met her again in Boston. By then she owned 2 sailboats. One she rents n captained the other lived on. She got married n sold the boats now lives on land. I got to visit the ship in San Juan when they were still using it. It was a real working ship. Rigging was complex as she explained how they maneuvered. She wasn’t a small person and she did climb the rigging, she was strong. When in Biston we didn’t recognize each other both working at a comic con. I mentioned I used to live in San Juan. She said she had a poet friend who lived there. I said not Lady Lee? Then we realized we both attended Lady’s poetry classes. Lady needed 12 people to get it funded on a grant. We were the 11 and 12. Helping her out. It was about 20 years earlier n both looked different. Then I saw her n her future hubby at comic con in Boston each year. She loved the Bounty gig. Was sorry when it sunk. So that’s my Bounty story. It was amazing to walk on that ship n see the lower decks.

Looks great. I’m from MA Where is that club located? Sparetime hobby in Marlboro closed last month. He had add ons for the carrier. I visited the BB many times in Fall River nice ship. See if scaleshipyard has a fiber glass larger hull for both ships. I got the DE 1040 Garcia hull from him. Added 3D parts I made n rest flat plastic card. Try a bigger version it could be fun on the pond

For card stick I use these. If it’s plastic to plastic I use plastruct or ca with freeze spray. The big navy ship is fiberglass hull, cardstock deck n superstructure and 3D PLA guns, doors and parts. The card stock used plastruct and CA at corners to reinforce. Card stock over large area n to fiberglass the goo worked well. CA tax points n masking tape kept them tight until goo dried. I used clear goo to hold clear sheet to plastic posts on my Creole wires railings.,the rails were printed on adhesive clear the stuck to sheet clear plastic styrene. The goo worked well n was clear. Hope this helps. I’m in California now picked up old linberg kit Clairmont pic of that geared paddles. I will RC it whike here for use in pool.
