    ๐Ÿ“ Which Varnish?

With regards to Which Varnish, Quite a few years ago now I used a product called "Finnigans", it was what you might call a heavy duty type of varnish, thick and sticky. if doing a larger surface you could practically pour it on in a small pool and simply brush it out and it found its own level. As this varnish had an Epoxy content when fully cured you can imagine how hard the finish was and it had a long lasting reflective shine. I would think that with care this varnih would look good on the deck of the model of a 1930s steam launch or speed boat.

First time in the water and under power. to get the correct trim (ect) I built a test tank from ply and lined it with polythene. To stat with There were two 12V lead acid batteries and the weight of the two motors, she just simply sat there, even the props were above water. After approx 30lbs more weight the correct water line was reached, the white line on the hull follows the sheer line of the main deck and isn't the true water line. So with the two batteries hooked up in parallel, the 12V Proboat Speed controller and the two Duma 12V motors as can be seen quite a good performance.

Completely scratch built using balsa wood and Mahogany strips for the decks and bridge and the free plan by James Pottinger issued in Model Boat Magazine November 1996. The plans were well drawn at a scale of 1:93 how ever I doubled the size by just transfering each measurement directly onto the wood and a few card patterns were made when panneling the hull.
Powered with twin 12 volt motors, two 12 volt lead acid batteries and two 1 3/4" props I am well sattisfied with the end result. A full build log with pictures can be found on the ''Leith built Ships" web site, or look under ''The Loftsman"

Does this one qualify? it took me almost 4 years to build this one. Scratch built from underhill plans. Parma made the fastest single journey in 1933 of 83 days in the grain races. the model is on permanent display in the Maritime Museum in Hull UK.

Look on the Keil Kraft EEZE Bilt site, there is a prototype build 20" and my build of the same boat at 40". Quick for a cheap and effective build.

Hello Basher, I have just registered on this site only minutes ago and Immediately saw your post. To me it is appropriate that you posted it on my birthday, 10th March thus my response. I admire the fact that you renamed the ship in a memory that is precious to you,a very sincere thing to do.Good luck with getting the ship into a fine working order. Best regards, Steve Heward. steve-fb40.
