It just goes to show that the American red Indians and the Eskimos knew all about hydrodynamics many years ago well before the Oxford and Cambridge universities got involved with racing ๐๐ค.
I have watched "The last of the Mohicans" several times over the years with quite a lot canoes involved. โบ.
All down hill from now on.๐ฎ.

This buoyancy standards question took me so long that my phone shut down twice ๐ค before I had the chance to put in my answer, probably quite an easy one for anyone who actually sails yachts ๐.

I presume that this document for a "certificate of registration" is also relevant now, and not just during "the age of sail ".๐ค๐ค๐, for a safe passage in foreign ports.
I'm sure that someone will know for sure?? ๐.
Roy, the only three boats that I have built, all took a lot of research to get the info on their history of the exact number that I wanted to "call" them. I finished up buying about 8 books on
Submarines, and a lot on coastal command boats. I would rather have a book in my hands rather than looking for the information on the internet ๐๐--and it's easier to refer back to.๐

๐I'm with Luckyduck with this one and the answer I gave was likened to driving a car where you apply the brakes slowly and with the use of the clutch ๐.

Only kidding, the last few questions have been asked before so it's been easier to get them correct if you can remember that far back ๐ค๐ค๐ค.

If you want to see a lot more information about the Fairey Huntsman and photos, there's a great article on SLEC'S 48" version by John Milestone in the latest October Model Boats Mag, 8 pages worth.
Hope this is of some help to the Fairey fans. Steve ๐๐..

Ok EdW about the eye piece, but I just remember all the Navy War films that I have watched on TV with the Captain on the bridge with a very large pair of binoculars looking out for enemy ships, or Captain Edward Smith of the Titanic wearing a large pair.
It was just a tragedy that the crews on lookout duty didn't have them to look for icebergs ๐๐จ. I read that they were locked away and nobody knew where the keys were.๐๐ฅ.

I did the same as Luckyduck by going for the answer with surf in it๐. No real idea otherwise. I studied the answers for ages and just about gave up ๐๐ค๐ค.
Late at night on one of the ITV channels there's an "unwind " program which is supposed to help you relax, and it many a time has surf breaking along the shoreline.
Relax--no way, I spend half an hour trying to figure out which way the tide was turning ๐ค๐ค๐..

Ok Roy, we have had a hosepipe ban for quite a while now here in Yorkshire. I was going to use our fish pond as a test tank but that is a little below ground level and my knees are now giving me a bit of trouble as wellโน๏ธ.
I can remember seeing the fishing trawlers up at Bridlington and Scarborough in the 1970,s with the large flat boards on their sides and wondered what they were about ๐ค. I wish that I had photographed them then as it would have been useful now that I,m into boat modelling.
I think that they have gone now ๐ค and have been replaced by smaller boats fishing for shell fish, crabs and lobsters ??

The u boat U570, type V11C was captured and put back into the RN as HMS Graph.
Last year I was given the transmitter of a model of this sub to sail round the Kirklees Model Boat Club lake while the owner went for his lunch ๐. I didn't dare dive the boat as he didn't give me good enough instructions on how to bring it back up and I was too busy making sure that I didn't collide with anyone's boats.
He had the boat painted in a very light grey??. ๐ค๐ค.

The shop was established in 1955 and used to be called "Flying Models Crossgates" . Now it's "Model Shop Leeds" and the phone number is
01132646117.
There was a model shop in the centre of Leeds, I think that was called Leeds Model Shop.๐ค I used to buy all my stuff there when I used to go to Kitson College where I studied Radio Tv Technician course. Couldn't drive at that time so couldn't get to Crossgates shop ๐. ๐ญ.
Just been in and there's nothing left-some guy from the USA has been in and bought nearly everything!!! --No, only joking ๐คฃ๐๐..

Ok about the Leeds model shop ๐. I live about 20 minutes away from the shop ๐๐.
Years ago it was also a newspaper shop, so it was open 7 days a week. I used to call in every Sunday while on my way to Rounday Park to watch the leeds model boat club members sail on the smaller of the two lakes and to give our lassie type collie dogs a really good walk around. At that time I was mainly into flying model aircraft and switched to boats much later on.
I still pop in when I need some bits for building and it,s nice to be able to actually see and touch what I am looking for.๐ I usually come back with other things "that will come in handy" The owner is Martin Sherwood, he took over when his father passed away. A nice lad very helpful along with his staff.
As for the pop concert ๐ it has caused a lot of traffic jams all over, along with a Rail strike on this same Bank Holiday. But this year on the news they have been saying that there are flushing toilets and shower units available for the campers so I might go next year ๐๐. Good luck with your surprise present๐๐. Steve..

Well, Down again โน๏ธ !! I didn,t have a clue this time as the only sailing that I have ever done was a trip up the East coast on the Bridlington Belle ( without getting sea sick ), a few crossings to the Isle of Mann on the ferry,s and much earlier still, on a Swan two kid paddle boat at a lake near Blackpool or Morcambe Bay.๐๐.
Even when I read the correct answer I was not much the wiser to the "key principle in advanced racing strategy" ๐๐ค..

Ok; Alessandro, I will certainly remember the bad old Teredo Navalis the next time that I build a model boat with marine birch plywood.๐
But I will not be covering it with copper sheeting.๐
I think that I should be quite safe as I only sail my boats in a landlocked lake ๐โบ.
Do you think that I should be taking the forum much more seriously???๐ค. I have learned a lot since joining when I asked if anyone could help with the use of the operation of "fighting lights" on my HDML.

Ho bug**r, I see what you mean now with navalis, Doug,
๐ฎ I should have gone for that but the only latin names I have come across have always had the same name twice as in Vulpes vulpes for fox and Meles meles for badger so I just went for the one with two names๐๐..
I couldn,t remember that question so it must have been before I got involved with this โน๏ธ๐ญ๐ญ.

This one took some reading multiple times ๐๐, but the part of the question "the unique construction feature of a 'Banks dory' that made it especially suitable for deployment from schooners"
Lead me to go for the answer with the part that had-
"easy stacking and launching from mother ships" in its answer..๐
As somebody has pointed out more than once-
"The Answer is in the Question" ๐I had no idea at all about the description of a Banks Dory only that it was a smallish boat probably with a few sets of oars ?? ๐ค๐ค.
Nick. I totally agree with you when you posted
"The post question debate is as much fun as the questions themselves!" That's how I got involved in the first place ๐๐.

I nearly missed out on this NEW question of the day as I was just looking for any comments on the foghorn one. Then I found a question of the day that I hadn't answered and began to wonder about my sanity ๐ฃ๐ค.
It was only when I read more comments about the question being changed that I breathed a sigh of relief, wow, thank goodness for that ๐๐๐. I really thought I must be losing my sanity having skipped a whole day- I'll now finish my ranting with a very long sigh of relief.....

I think that we have again, had this question before or one very similar, but this time I couldn't remember what I had put down or if I had got it right or not.๐ค๐ค.
I read it lots of times and couldn't find anything about towing ๐ฃ๐ฃ...but I thought that it was something to do with being restricted in some way.
