I will be doing a build blog, and I hope to get started as soon as Christmas is over.
More presseing matters to attend to over the next few days.
Thanks to everybody for their input and I will keep everyone up to date with the project.

When I say that I intend to use becker rudders I mean that I want to use them for the fin stabilisers as well as the standard vessel rudders.
I have included a photo of said items on full size vessel so as to give a clearer picture of my intentions.
The vessel in question is the German Coastguard and Fisheries Protection vessel Seeadler.
My model has a total length of 1644mm and width of 310mm (scale 1:43).
It will be powered by a pair or Torpedo 850 motors and 2.1:1 reduction drives throuth 60mm 4blade props.

HI Paul, no experience whatsoever, was thinking about using the gyro in conjunction with a pair of servos basically to keep that boat level, and also I just want to have as many working functions as possible.
I intend to use a pair of modified becker rudders as the stabilisers so as to keep things as close to the original vessel as possible.

Apologies for the blurred pictures of the boat on the water.
Not easy trying to use 35mm SLR with telephoto lens and radio control at the same time.
More boat details to folloe.

The boat was built in 1976 from drawings that I obtained from Cleveland County Fire Brigade.
The full size vessel was then based on the river Tees in Middlesbrough, but she has now been changed to a scrap collector.
Back then digital cameras did not exist and so I have re-photographed the original 6x4 prints so I apologise for the poor quality of the pictures, I will upload some better ones in the near future.

In the not too distant future I intend to invest in a couple of single prop stern thrusters from the German site, I know they are not cheap but even though I know how to make my own I do not have the equipement needed.
I will let you know what they are like as soon as I get them.
Regards
Steve.

I am new to this site so I did not see the original post, but I do have info on flap rudders.
Please excuse any mistakes as this is my first attempt at doing this.
Anyway, here goes, WWW Rudderpower.com is an excellent site for any info wanted on flap rudders,(there is even a video showing exactly how these things work). I know that everything on there is for full size rudders but you should get the info that you need to be able to make your own.
Hobby-Lobby Modellbau is a German site (but can be read in English) and they sell brass beckerrudders, they are not cheap but they do look good.
They come under the section Drive Shaft, Coupling.
I know that this info might be too late for you to use but hopefully it will be helpfull.
Kind regards,
Steve
