There's always this air of mystery in these life boats. I wonder what tales they could tell if they were able to speak. The orange heroes of the seas have saved countless lives and inspired many pub stories never believed.

Good morning fellow modellers from a dewy, sunny Easter Sunday morning here in Doncaster. I am currently re-furbing a 1/12 th scale Tyne lifeboat purchased from a club member. I striped her down to the bare hull and deck and re sprayed etc, I will set a blog out later when I have all the stages photoed. I am currently at a stage of making the fiddly bits on the cabins etc. I was looking at a list of RNLI Tyne boats and their past stations and where they are now. I found the City of Sheffield was originally a Whitby boat and now resides in the National emergency services museum in Sheffield. So I looked at the web site for details and found that over the holiday period the exhibits were open to board. So a train to Sheffield a walk through the city centre I soon found the museum. What a great little place, it was housed in the old building originally the police ambulance and fire station in the early 1900s. The boat was outside in the yard and a guy Shaun welcomed me aboard. What a great chap he was very helpful and knowledgeable. In the course of our chats he told of her history etc. and when she was named at Whitby by the duke and Duchess of Kent. He then from his pack of momentoes produced an original official invite card a customer had previously given him. He said after looking at the photos of my model I could have it to go with my boat. See photo. He was as interested in my boat as I was of his. I took a lot of photos to help with the build and also when purchasing my entry ticket I was given a free pass for one year to revisit the museum free of charge, the entry fee was £8.50 age consetion applied.a good day out all round could well recommend to anyone building a Tyne. If you cannot get I’ve lots of photos or can go again free and get some!!. Regards Roger.
