Lew, I was hoping to get an airport within that 40 miles, but the US charter flights are more expensive than the UK flights, roughly about $300k more.
But like one commentator said on the Leamington cancellation, the show did not attract visitors to benefit the sponsors resulting in less sponsors which attracted less visitors. It's a catch 22.

Even if with 200 free flights, I doubt I would get enough interest.
You are very right though. Our "Biggest" club is 900 miles away, and they declined a national show a few years ago. What is funny though, when it comes to DF95 racing, there does not seem to be a "distance" issue.
And with the new changes in EU travel, things aren't looking much better.
Unfortunately for me, I am an eternal optimist.

Too bad. As per previous discussions on this site I was wondering how you would be able to achieve an epic event. In this area people usually don't travel over 40 miles for model boating.

I always look for new model shows on YouTube, especially boats and more specific RC.
