Pictures to accompany the previous post, showing that the stern tube is fixed firmly in place and the hole in the hull has been filled and awaits a coat of paint.
All in all, it's coming together OK.

The model has made some progress since I tacked the stern tube in place, the tube is now properly fixed with glass-filled resin (polyester) and the motor mount likewise. Only a few more hours of work required and the ASR can return to the water. I'll add some pictures after breakfast!

Oxford Dave, As you know, (but newbies may not), One can mix 'anything' with resin (preferably epoxy & some 'recognized fibre', & or filler, even 'sifted'? sawdust, talc, chalk, 'Q' cells, micro ballons, even (sifted) vacuum cleaner spoils? Do you have to have 'Nerves of steel', to be an 'Iron Man'? And are you 'attracted to magnets', as much as women are attracted to you? ๐Ÿ™ˆ See no women, (if you've already got one),๐Ÿ™‰ Hear no women,๐Ÿ™Š No point trying to get a 'word' (or a hand), in'! I have spent most of the day trying to get a pair of ESCs that will work together in my Robbe police boat having damaged one of them when playing ice breakers recently.
Having failed to find any in my various boxes, I decided to get back to the ASR.
I had left the new shaft tube strapped in place and secured it with micro fibres and cyano. It was firmly in place and lined up with the centre line of the hull.
As the picture shows, the original builder had been more than generous when cutting the hole for the tube to pass through the hull, so tomorrow's jobs will include a good helping of glass fibre filler to make good the area around the shaft and also to reinforce the rudder tube.
I need to wait until the morning as I'll have to work with the windows open to minimise the smell of the resin, so best done while my wife is out.

To all you guys who have the military & or wife discipline to help built such amazing, detailed, models, even on benches, (raw nerve, 'can a worms', back ground of pictures?) benches. I've been sniffing glue, (Styrene & some epoxy resin), for 57 years now, as a 'do it for living', (not necessarily good at it), professional boat repairer plus stress of the fore mentioned 'eviction' has affected my brain. I try to cope with wit, ('B J', 'B'ad Dad(g) 'J'oke), but not always witty, whatty!๐Ÿ˜ฎ? So! Judge me if U will. How would U cope?๐Ÿค” Two councilors said my 'Poor Me's are "Very hard to read". Murphy's Law, as soon as U throw it, U need it! Hench hoarding! Beg, buy & or borrow, Dragon - Firefly 8 - 9.2 M tri model request is to help motivate me! If 'moulding' fibre glass, even on good finish, use wax release coats X 2, plus Poly Vinyl Alcohol for 'sure' (sea shore)? release. If done in the sun, that expands the air pores in anything. Slow hardener in bog filler can be used on 'patterns' instead of gel & or flow coat to glass while still paste, & paint later. Tissue for glass bubble control, thin cloth one or either side of Chop Strand Mat makes better, stiffer laminate. Better than any excess resin, (the 'weak link'). 'B J', 'B'ad Dad 'J'oke.

Today my bench has been occupied by a Dean's Marine 1/24 th scale ASR (Air Sea Rescue) which I bought cheaply and ready to run from the club I am a member of. Within ten minutes of buying it, the radio, motor & ESC had been sold to another club member, so I took the non-functioning boat home to start work on it.
As I turned it over, the prop shaft and tube fell out. What I had hoped would be a quick clean, new motor and radio, and back on the water the following weekend.
My first task was to replace the coaming for the superstructure, which I finished this morning.
Over the last few weeks I was struggling to line up the new prop shaft (not helped by the large hole in the hull), but it was only today that I realised that the rudder had been mounted off centre.
Rudder hole fixed with cyano and microfibres, then re-drilled in the correct place, the rudder tube fixed in place.
Next, I established a true centre line on the hull and have tacked the prop tube in place with another dose of microfibres and cyano.
I'll be out at the club pond tomorrow, but hopefully can get the shaft tube firmly fixed in place later tomorrow or on Monday (the joy of retirement!).
No pictures as it is a bit of a mess, but should be back on the water in a week or so.

    Spot on there Doug.

Some folks do have nice big and meticulously laid out workshops which provides satisfaction and interest in its own right but it doesn't mean they produce better models.

I like to be tidy but I'm often working in a bit of a mess due to space considerations. I'm using the small bedroom as a workshop which also doubles up as general household storage and other interests, but whilst space is tight and I have to keep moving things and searching for things I like it as it's nice and cosy and warm at this time of year! There's some things I can't do or want to do in the house but I can live with that.

    Servus Michel.
Re "Simply too much material, but if you don't put it aside, you'll be annoyed that you no longer have it! Have we modellers now become messies?"
It goes with the territory Michel๐Ÿ™„
Many years ago I read in a German ship modelling magazine (Schiffswerft or maybe Modellwerft?) the following motto, freely translated (for our many members around the world) ...
"A ship modeller never throws anything away which won't start to stink within a week or so."๐Ÿ™Š

That's why I now have a mammoth task ahead of me to clear out my workshop and cellar SO I CAN MOVE AROUND AND START TO DO SOMETHING AGAIN๐Ÿค”
Trouble always is; you can never really decide what to chuck out and what is worth saving!
Always subject to the Universal Rules (apart from "42", probability drive and Slarti Bartfast's fjord building) of ...
    1. Stuff always expands to fill the space available for it.
    2. Whatever you chuck out - you will urgently need within a week.
So what chance do we have?๐Ÿ™ˆ
    The other side is ...
we know we bought a special tool which is ideal for the job in hand.
But do we know where we put it? NO! Can we find it? NO!
    So what do we do?
1 Buy it again. Then two days later find the original while looking for something totally different๐Ÿ˜
2 Use conventional tools in an unconventional way to get the job done

    Hi BJ,
Re "Doug was 'Submarine Racing', on the Canadian border?"
Actually no, but on an inland sea in Munich, Bavaria.
Running a 107cm type 1A U Boat (1/72nd scale, running two 385 brushed on 12V driving 30mm screws) I easily outran several RTR 'Speed Boats' leaving their proud owners looking a bit glum.๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ Advantage of a ca 10 to 1 LoA to beam ratio๐Ÿ˜
    Cheers, Doug
BTW What's with all the odd cryptic posts? Have you been inadvertently sniffing too much glue?
