I'm just being overly cautious in my fear that water in the bearings will cause them to rust and corrode and eventually seize up, even worst in salt water. My fears my not be justified and are not based on any boat usage so may not be valid. Keep us posted on the results but it will probably be a long time before you find out.
It would be appreciated if there any body who has any experience that can give us any input on this. Len ▲

Bearings are cheap Chinese ones and are not sealed. Probably not the best option, but not being air/watertight will have an advantage. Air will be easily purged/vented through the bushing/shaft interface when filling the stuffing boxes with grease. I'm crossing fingers and relying on the grease to keep bearingsalive. Anyway, I don't plan to operate her on salty water. This will be less aggressive to bearings.

Hi! I think youโre off to a grand start on your Schnellboote! I built the Vosper 77 a few years ago and can attest to the quality of the Italeri line. Will be keeping an eye on your blog. Ohโฆyour English is quite good.

Great job.
I am wondering if you are using sealed bearings and are relying on the seals to keep the grease in the SB. Are you relying on sealing the prop end of the SB with the seals in the bearing to keep the water out? I am using StaLube marine grease for lubrication to lube the SB in my boat but I do not use a ball bearing below the waterline but use a SB with an ID of .187 and has a .750 long bushing with an OD of .157 and an ID of .1255 that is solder into the end of the SB below the waterline. The inboard end of the SB has a ball bearing installed with an ID of .125. The prop shaft is .125 stainless steel and runs thru the bearing on the inboard end and runs thru the bushing on the water end and this leaves approx. (.187-.157)/2 or .015 clearance around the shaft for grease. I guess I was not sure if a sealed bearing would hold up being submerged under water. How is it working out for you so I can go this route in the future? Thanks, Len ▲

Nice job. How did you close the ends of the stuffing boxes, it looks like some kind of bearing? Len

Ahoy there!
Yes,the Italieri Schnellboot kit is exellent, beatifully moulded parts.I built one usind model weld liquid poly glue and works well.I put three Overlander 2836`s in her,3 separate esc`s and powered by one 11.1v lipo battery. It is all a bit tight in the hull for all this and the wires ,but it all fits in and she goes like s... off a shovel !!.Because she sits fairly low in the water, you have to be careful at fast speed!..The wind got up one day at the lake and caused a lot of rough waves! anyway, she took on water and went down in 10 seconds! and spent 2 months at the bottom of the lake!Eventually we got her back via a fisherman who miraculously cast his line RIGHT OVER THE BOAT!! S he suffered a lot of surface damage but the hull was still perfectly still glued together. Well, after a month or so of renovation work and scratchbuilding, she is back on the water and terrorising the other boats! I love it so much,"Schnelly" now has two more Italieri companions including the new S26 kit ! ▲

That is some very interesting information you have come up with.
I will make note of the results you have found for my future use. Thanks, Barry ▲
