Having put together a couple of "kit's" over the years, normally with fiberglass hull, I decided after having a electrical failure while on the local pond that I could do with something to retrieve a stricken boat, but with what and how, well after posing the question of what others do I decided to have a look about and found some idea's for a push tug, it seemed like the ideal thing and was something like I was looking for, I didn't purchase a kit, instead decided to build it myself...
After making the hull according to the plan's, I looked at it and thought... na, that won't work. the plan's gave the hull a half moon shape, I found that it didn't balance well and needed a fair bit of weight due to the displacement, so I cut the bottom of and now is a flat bottom vassal, this sat better and stable in water.. I intend to run it on a 12v sla battery and two Mtroniks 600 motors... the deck and cabin has copied the general shape but a few changes to add features and suit the design that pop's into my head as I go... its coming along well I think... all materials are mostly odd's and end's, bit's I find and mixed wood except the deck's which I intend to varnish with white sides..

Thank's... a slight change of plan with the colour, the hull is now dark green, but it suit's.. the cabin is still white, I still want to do the decks with varnish with white sides... I will post a few photos soon...

Hi, yes it is a odd way, not something I would have done but it must work ok.

The San Pedro was a challenge! But she turned out to be a good boat to build!๐Ÿ‘ Oh, before I forget the San Pedro doesn't have much room in the engine room. She's a 30" x 12" but her battery area is small! 5.5" x 4.5" x 4.0" so only one sla can be used!

P.S.. yes I like the one you have, if I had seen the Dumas San Pedro during my search it would have been of interest to me.

Yes, I know what your saying about needing weight, I have yet to find out just how much, however I am intending to run it from a 12v7a sla, and with two good size motors, so hopefully I shouldn't need to add to much if any, the original hull design is supposed to have a curve right around the bottom, this proved to be unstable and would need even more weight, so I cut it of and made it a flat bottom. I only wanted to make a recovery boat for break-down's, this seemed like the idea solution, but I think I am getting a little carried away with it other than just "bunging it together".

I like the flat bottom design!
But they do tend to take more weight.
    Than traditional hulls.
I have the Dumas San Pedro.
She weighs in at 21 pounds!
Needless to say I don't take her out much!

well, bathroom trial's have taken place, a few adjustments, i.e positioning of the battery for balance, otherwise no bad at all, sit's ok may need a little balancing with weights but the open pond will allow travel and view from all angle's, electrics are in and basic, old transmitter and receiver, a cheep ebay esc, new motors, shafts, prop's and rudders, all working together well, the rest is as mentioned "stuff" that I found in the loft, shed and junk room.

Hi Ed.. Thanks for looking and saying I have done a great job๐Ÿ‘, not sure if its as good as your San Pedro. it has been a fun build and turned out better than I thought it would, still those little bits to do.. this build has the possibility to continue for a while yet as bits and extra's are added.๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks for your support, its very welcome, as for the leg pulling, I think we could have fallen out of the same tree at some point, always up for a leg pulling or pulling a leg at times, and no there is not a cure. sea trials, the local pond is sea water so your on the ball there... I do have a short video of a couple of the other boats we have, I could post it here..

Very nice going, tidy work, esp. for a first build๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
Can't wait to see what you get up to next ๐Ÿ˜‰
Pardon my leg pulling, I just can't resist it ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
    Maybe there's a therapy for it !?
Look forward to seeing the Sea Trial of your tug.
    All the best, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Hi Doug, it has been a bit of fun and yes its amazing how much stuff you can gather and hoard, tuck things away for those just in case moments etc and trying to make it all look tidy. as for the esc, it does have a buzz to it but it was a cheap item with a built in cheep (less than ยฃ10.). I must admit, I'm not very experienced with doing this, so a good bit of fun and experience of a first build from just an idea and a few odd photo's for direction. as for the hull design of the springer tug, not a Scooby..๐Ÿ‘

You just NEVER know when 'stuff' will come in handy! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Greetings from one 'stuff collector' to another๐Ÿ‘
BTW; can you post a sound file of your 'cheeping' ESC? ๐Ÿ˜ He He ๐Ÿ˜‰
Nice build, but I'm sure that there was a reason why the Springer Pusher Tug hull was designed that way!?
Whatever, have fun. Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

if I hadn't already paid the car park fee, I would have gone back home and got the ..... phone, I'm using sla batteries, the one I thought it would need and seem to ok when testing at home was a 12v 7a, however when on a run it seemed to sit a little low but balanced well, so I also have a 12v 5a battery and will give that a try, due to the physical size difference an internal adjustment will be needed...
