I always thought that cigarette cards mounted in the official book was good but they have less value than an individual set.

When I was paid an income I was a Field Manager for the local area computers, the really big ones. I would regularly make myself known to the managers of the companies.

One of our sites was the film set at Elstree. And come lunch time many of the actors on TV and screen would come in for lunch. I was casually observing Mike Winters when his brother Bernie arrived with a sack over his shoulder.

He emptied it on the table and it was loads of cigarette card sets maybe a hundred or so.

In the UK it was mainly called chewing gum and believed to contribute to if not the cause of mouth cancer. Chews (pun) your poisons!

Hi Doug my dad was in the trenches at the Somme, I have a letter he wrote from that very address! Socks he wanted but in the adressee part is an aunt we cannot trace!

I know in Dad's Army private Pike's 'uncle' was revealed after the last episode as his dad but spare aunts?

When I went to work for the queen in the RAF, she suggested 59 Squadron, well how could I refuse?
Have you got that one in your cigarette card set by the way?
I do have a set of railway engines from a weighing machine, they were thick card.

It's like all my investments including my stamp album, nothing much in the way of value and apart from that, the current generation do not know what you are talking about.

The next 'craze' will be painless removal of tatoos and smart phones.

Well, at least our Bubble gum was better for you than cigarettes, as long as you didn't smoke it.... the gum that is.๐Ÿ˜‚

Don't forget the tea cards as well, as a kid many moons ago I collected tea cards as well as cigarette cards. I am sorry to say that my collections were lost in a house fire in 1972 due to a firework going through an open window while the family were at an organised event in Leicester, Abbey Park.
Oh well we live on with our memories, cheers Colin.

    Go for it Roy๐Ÿ‘
    I'll back you up tonight.
I have Dad's collection of RAF Squadron badges. He was an Avionics Officer in the RAF from Spitfires and Mossies up to the MRCA Tornado, for which he was the RAF Liaison Officer to Panavia, the consortium that built the planes.
His favourite squadron was No. 29 with Spitfires.
The cards are part of a series of 50 given with Players cigarettes.
On the back, in teeny weeny print, is a history of the squadron.
At the top of the back is a reminder to buy the associated Album to collect the cards in.
"This surface is adhesive. Ask your tobacconist for the attractive album (price one penny) ๐Ÿ™„ specially prepared to hold the complete series."

I'll try to scan them tonight when I get home.
    Gotta go now.
    Cheers, Doug๐Ÿ˜Ž

I love those 'Artists impression' type pictures. Reminds me of my cigarette card collection.
I had some quite old ones as a lad and there were biplane aircraft pictures and on the back it said performance secret.

Doug is it you or me that will have to explain what cigarette cards were?

    regards to all
    Roy
