I think you will find the Speed 400 quite OK for your boat. You can always experiment with the prop size. If the motor gets hot then use a smaller diameter prop.
Having a motor on a sailing craft makes it far more enjoyable. Not only can you get the boat back to you when you want it, but you can also use the motor to help tack in light wind conditions.
    Good luck๐Ÿ˜‰

Hi Fulvio, I made the same reasoning for my schooner.
Mainly I would like to go sailing, but if I need to get out of some trouble I prefer to rely on a powerful motor.
Like you said, if I want realistic navigation to make a video, I reduce the speed with the stick.
It's a great idea though (I didn't do it) to use a mechanical speed reducer.
Finally, an electric motor that is a little more powerful than the propeller is better, rather than an undersized one. In the latter case you could have overheating problems.
How long is this model and how much does it weigh?

    Ciao Fulvio,
I also have a sailing boat, but no engine installed. instead, I have a powerful water pump so that I can bring it back to shore when it's calm. Everyone does what they think is right.
The next time I restore the old Graupner Optimist, I will think about it again. . . ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„
I had to wait over half an hour for the first sailboat to return to the shore because of a lull. Well, what the heck! ๐Ÿ˜
    Best regards Michel-C

H i I have an Inga IV which is about 10 Kilograms in weight. I use a Monoperm super with a 1 : 2 reduction gear on a fairly big prop. It goes around very smartly. Power required is just 6 or 7 watts say 6 volts at 1 amp. Yacht hulls have a low water drag and do not require much power.

You will have no problem with what you propose.

    Good luck

Auxiliary motors in the real thing are traditionally a bit pathetic but thereโ€™s no reason why yours should be. As you say, it sounds a bit overkill but you can restrict the speed by adjusting the end points on your tx?

Good morning to all of You. I have a 22 years old Comtesse boat from Robbe and i would like now to add for fun an electric motor + battery pack 6V + ESC for Brush motors.
I have spare from my airmodel activity 1 motor Graupner Speed 400 brushed. I would like to ask if this motor with a propeller with 3 blades with 35 mm diameter can be suitable.
The scope for me is to utilize the motor if no enough wind and in this case to back close to me with the model. I suppose the Speed 400 motor is too powerfull but in case i can use just half of the engine stick stroke. What do you think? can i do it. Thanks Fulvio
