Have you considered nickel plating your brass after it is all soldered up? You Tube University has a heap of tutorials on how to do it with minimal equipment required.

Just remember, the key to a good solder joint is clenliness, the flux is there to prevent oxidation not clean the job. Heat the job and let the solder melt into the joint, don't melt the solder with the iron and hope it will make a good joint...
If it don't fit, use a hammer to make it fit....

Thanks for all the help guys yesterday I went to a hobby shop and got brass rods instead ,I did want the clean silver look but would probably look nice all in brass instead as Iโ€™ve never really soldered before but have had ago last couple of days and worked out what to do so hopefully should look ok I hope ,my uncle was showing me how to do everything Iโ€™ve learnt so far but he past away last year and never got that far with me so everyoneโ€™s help has been great and have taken onboard and hopefully I can learn to do this I have watched a few videos on YouTube but there seems to be only one thatโ€™s related to what I want to do and it was brass work so that mite be the easiest option but so long as I donโ€™t mess up I got flux but it was like a liquid and not paste as it was on videos Iโ€™ve watched but does it work the same if done properly I feel pretty disheartened after all the work Iโ€™ve put into it wanting it to look like my uncles old boat to have to rip everything off thatโ€™s stainless steel and to do it in brass as the easy option as the only way to do it

Good Day, notv5rying to burst your bubble, but those pencil-type electronics soldering setups will be ok for small, well fluxes and clean work, using mild rosin core thin solder wire.
For anything heavier, you will need z good 120 to 140 watt soldering gun, or even a small butane pin-point torch with very clean work and acid flux.
If you wanted to tackle Stainless or Bronze rods, you will also require Silver Solder flux and SS wire, or fluxes bronze rods.

Here is a good link for learning how to solder, would suggests you use brass or copper. you need high temp for stainless.

You can only silver solder stainless steel. The kit you have is for lead/lead free electical work. For Stainless you need a torch, the job has to be around 680 degrees for silversoldering.
If it don't fit, use a hammer to make it fit....

    Hi Wez.
Soldering stainless steel can be done, but I'm afraid that your little kit will not cut the mustard for this job.
It looks great for small stuff like PCB work or soldering brass and copper etc.
See attached link for the low-down on soldering stainless.
Basically you need an aggressive flux and lots of heat. I mean lots!!๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ
A small gas torch like the ones sold for kitchen use should do the job.
I have one and it works great, and not just for melting the brown sugar on my creme brulee!๐Ÿ˜‹

Hot guys just after a little help ,I picked this soldering kit up yesterday on Facebook and for the money not bad ,as Iโ€™ve never used one before I was going to try and I know it mite seem a daft question but I have some stainless steel long rods which to be honest was just an old grait out of a cooker but never been used and did try and solder together but do you have to use different types of solder wire for different types of metal ,I know it would be probably easy just to use brass but did want silver so thatโ€™s why I chose to do them on the roof of the huntsman as rails but wanted to get the same result on front part of boat like in picture
