Why did I build the 'Wahine'?
I can still recall where I was when news of the ship's sinking played out on TV. A few years later, my first job as a student engineer at then-AEI in Manchester UK was working beside the engineer responsible for the design of it's successor, the Rangatira's, main steam turbines. When I considered building a model of the Rangatira I thought the looks of her were spoilt by the funnel shape and, since it was almost a duplicate of the Wahine, I opted to build the Wahine. Roy PS. I have seen Rowen's models up close and his posts here do not do justice to the quality and detail that he puts into every model. Every detail is scratcbuilt and accurately constructed. ▲

Cannot recall the exact reason for choosing Wahine to model.
She was a very pretty ship and also built in the UK. My friend is a meticulous modeler and vessel is a credit to him. Has both bow and stern thrusters and a bow rudder. He did write a article for Model Boats International when it was still available. ▲

Hi Rowen, seemed an unusual choice of model for a ship from the opposite side of the world. I sailed across Cook Strait to Christchurch and back from Picton on her sister ship about 2 yrs later, and you sailed past the wreck as you came into and out of Wellington harbour. Vids Might be of interest.

Our club has a "Parade of Boats" day every June. Club members bring boats to display, and there are scheduled events throughout the day. A lot of locals bring their lawn chairs and spend the day enjoying our boats. The two floating lighthouses are used during our two "Lighthouse Day" events, which go until dark so we can display our boat lighting.

When I originally said I knew who owned the boat, I was mistaken. However, since then I have found out who owns it. At our club's recent annual "Dry Dock" luncheon, I asked him about the power plant. He informed me it is an engine from an old Sears Craftsman chainsaw. No wonder you didn't recognize it! Dave B ▲

Seeing the time and effort other people put into their modelling hobby, and looking at the "build blogs" and forum comments on "Model Boats Website". I was prompted to share (with agreement) a couple of build (logs) blogs which would reach a wider audience via my youtube posts.
The intention is just to supplement and acknowledge ideas from all who share this common interest.
No monitorisation is received from this or any postings.
