with help from Neil I have been brave and gone with the forward paint striped off to reveal a horrible join between the forward upper strips and the the side sheet what I thought was a dent proved to a bad build the other issue is a curved top deck i think I can resolve with a extra bulkhead

๐Ÿ“ well it had to happen the paint all stripped off

Well as the better half calls it firewood mind you who ever made it was related to the Flintstones as its build was pretty rubbish its another that has been put in the loft as a future build into what who knows

Having looked over what was a pile of wood I have carried on stripping off the paint and took aprt the forward bulkhead that caused the horrible shape in the stern of the boat this wooden bulkhead no1 seems to be too big by2mm on each side I am not sure how to trim it back without destroying the balsa wood strips that makes up the bottom of the boat if that makes sense, So we shall carry on with this Sows Ear

Thanks for commenting.. after this mornings sail I say I'm happy the old smit is again watertight so it's just a matter of repainting bottom of hull.. A frames held everything nice and tight.. and here's a pic of the original remaining Skeg if that's the right term for it

    Terry.
Glad you added two A frames.
They are so important especially with the stress the Kort nozzles will exert when turning.
Nice home built ones as well.
    Regards
    Bill.

Ah, two propshafts, and with kort nozzles plus dirigible rudders. Blimey, this thing will turn on a sixpence !
Glad to see you added the A frames though. With that amount of unsupported prop shaft they are essential.

    Stephen.
A wedge is by far the simplest way.
If using wood ensure you waterproof well once fitted.
An A frame is easy to make, but depends if you have the kit to make it.I make my own.
For yours (as it is a closed shaft and tube) I suggest a length of brass strip or similar bent over the tube and soft soldered or glued in place with the ends being inset in the hull and glued.
If you havnt got any brass strip and want to use that plan I am happy to post you a length if you PM me your address. You will only need a short length.(See pics of examples including brass strip).
    Regards
    Bill.

I'm glad to see you persevered with restoration of this boat, and yes, I would support the prop tube with a wedge or web glued between the hull ( keel ) and the tube ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hi Stephen.
Looking at the photographs I would definitely recommend either an A frame close to the end of the shaft or a wedge between shaft and hull. This will help prevent any whip or vibration.

Well following the advice from Bill I have remade the wedge out of hardwood and sealed now on second coat of top paint, that much is done been working on the forward gun and sorting out the parts that was missing for the deck I will need to get the mast, torpedos x 4 and the torpedo loading cranes from Battle crafts

For those that are obsessed with size the prop is 35mm is that the right size had trouble getting one that fits due to the UNC thread on the prop
