Regretably I have decided to part company with Kathryn. The boat that is, not my wife. I am looking to dispose of the larger, less manageable boats from my collection to make life a little easier for me. The Sea Queen has gone to a new home in Southport, and now the Thames Bawley to a member of Kirklees Model Boat Club. The new owner has exciting new plans for her so I will be keeping a watch on developments.
It is quite sad to part company with a model that I have spent so many hours in making and sailing but comforting that she is now in good hands. ๐Ÿ˜‰

You managed to upload the video Ned, it looks very good.

I really appreciated the video, considering that you were controlling the boat and filming at the same time, I wouldn't have been able to do it.

It sails very well and can turn excellently, congratulations to the pilot and the builder of this boat.

When you want more videos they will always be appreciated.

I noticed that some water comes up on the deck (when it gets a crosswind and is very inclined).
Did you find some water in the hold?

Yes Alessandro, it is complicated. I have a complicated plan. I want to try the more basic version using the existing fitting but with a few bits renewed to lower friction and if that works well I may move to the more permanent even lower friction version (that will involve two new through deck fittings). Im not going to try and explain it. If I ever do it I will show you.

Ned, I really appreciate your attempt to be as faithful as possible to the original (if you say that in the real one there is no boom), however I believe that in scale models sailing without a boom is more complicated than in reality. Not impossible but more complicated.
I hope you will post many photos of the modifications you intend to make and especially videos of sailing.

'Kathryn' is well. I am doing a few jobs on her such as replacing a servo and have sewn the mainsail onto the gaff to be more authentic and added some sail ties to the mast. The sail sets nicely.
Im looking at how I can remove the boom as Bawley's did not have them. ..I have a plan that seems to work on dry land quite well when tested but there is too much friction with the existing fittings so need to go a bit further...

...Basically I am trying to make a traveller that works correctly so the sail is pulled down from the lee rail, not the centre of the transom.

For now and for quite a while I think she will remain to have a boom...

Sadly it also becomes harder for me to keep large sized model power boats than it did when I was younger - not only to transport and carry them to the lake - but also to move them around inside the workshop (shed).

I recently passed-on my part restored Chris Craft Corvette to a friend as I just couldn't manage lifting and moving it around in my workshop (shed) any longer.

My LesRo Rapier is probably the biggest model that I can comfortably live with, although I still have a Sea Queen that is quite a bulky model - but it is not a heavy model - so I am keeping it for as long as I am able to handle it.

It is regrettable but unfortunately a fact of life as you get older. I sold my big 47" Huntsman because it was getting unmanageable and decided that I wouldn't build any bigger than around 35".

It's not the all out weight that's the problem as I don't have a problem with that so much it's the substantial weight plus an awkward shape and the increased chance of damaging the model.

Kathryn has I believe gone to a good home. I have exchanged emails with the new owner and will remind him of this site so we can see how he is getting on. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Noooooooo! Flaxybybuck.

Why did you decide to give away your ships?
And especially why give away the Kathryn? Iโ€™m really sorry.

I hope that the person who bought them will treat them well. Maybe tell them to sign up for this website, so we can keep an eye on them too.
