Italeri Vospers …

Having about a couple of weeks in which I put aside my Schnellboot I started first one then the second of Italeri’ Vosper kits the 77 and the St Nazaire 74 boats …I have worked them to the point of subassemblies for painting…and will soon configure a brushless motor and ESC . After the all the issues with the Schnellboot build …in part to many starts and stops over the last few years I will keep these simple to a single motor and rudder.

I found that a single brushed motor was adequate in my Vosper. I run it with one 7.2 NiMH 1200 mah it gives plenty of run time too at a scale speed.

Next stop Maiden voyage…..

Have finished detailing for the time being and one final trim out then hoping to go to the local pond to see her run for the first time ….most of what I have done , know comes from the postings here and what is posted on YouTube. I am very grateful for all the efforts that those here and those that post on YouTube …I have no clubs anywhere near me , the closest to me is a fast boat group and most of their meets are out of state to me , as to a scale model group the next closes is about mid state and they post more along the lines of sail, than motor craft …Again Thank You all for the resource…

Well We did not sink …..but…

The maiden voyage was good for the most part , given this is my second boat I have ever gotten into the water it went well. A couple of issues was one was using a stick radio set up for flight and not surface and two was the throttle settings was not right …So after a short run and a few bury the sterns due to more throttle/power backwards than forwards it was back home to evaluate and correct. So one was to install a surface radio that I had ordered for the Vospers , now need to get another receiver, and after a bit of YouTube figured out that the ESC ‘s if reversing them did not work that maybe programming them would ….problem solved …had gotten a car programming card some time ago so I tried it having nothing to lose and have a boat card on its way . I got lucky …it worked set the throttle up and next test will be tomorrow afternoon ..

Second run …

Spent the evening before changing out radio, and adjusting issues ….have most solved and now left with making the wiring neat and final control trimming…6 years of build off and on and she is now on the water …I am hoping the two Vospers I am building to chase her will be done sooner … . Now just have to learn how to run her …I had a friend at the helm for this ….I am still a bit heavy on the controls and the feel for the steering.

Update

At a recent Marine Modelers of New England steering meet one of the club members took this video of my poor Vosper #78 …she is not trimmed out to my liking and may some day be revisited to correct what I feel is a bit bow heavy . This has been posted on Face Book at the Homeport Ship Modelers web site with may likes …

I am not the videographer, Eric the owner of Homeport Ship Modelers in Peabody Ma. is the one who filmed this and has it also posted on his Facebook. He and his crew are professional master builders in my humble opinion and well worth a look at the web site . In the background you can see one of his Arleigh Burke Class out on sea trials .
