It been awhile since my last update , but life is like that at times we cant always do what we want or even feel up to doing it …lol I have started to move forward to getting this to be a runner , by working on a few details and mounting hardware , running the wires and ordering bits and pieces that are needed. I have done a quick water line check and trim with more weight than what is currently required as to known parts that must still be installed . She is looking to be a bit light or very close to spec as to draft and still have room for more battery or details . I can’t wait to see and hear the sound board and muzzle flash in action…And I seemed to have new help …lol …Be Safe All

I found Model Sounds inc. online , they have a wide selection of sounds and for a small fee can customize your sounds and has the option to purchase software to make your own customized sounds . Their system can be optimized to be removable and placed in different models. I have found them to be very helpful and worth the consideration when choosing to add a sound system .

Well things are progressing slow , life does that at times , tho a bit of procrastination can be made if honest …lol ..I have done more detailed work and finalizing things as to hull access , and component mounting/ locations …one thing I have added that was not on my original build plan is a sound board and LED muzzle flash .
I am very excited to get this in and see and hear it on the water . My only regret is where I am adding muzzle flash to the 40mm Bofors in the stern that I have reto fitted the LED . I feel if I had installed it at its build time I could have run the fine wiring better , but we do the best we can . What is nice is that the sound board has proportional Throttle Diesel engines, 20 mm bust , 40 mm Bofors bust and Torpedo launch ,with warning siren ,…as an added feature the LED out puts for the engine’s exhaust, and the weapons are synchronized to the sound of each , so you can have exhaust flash , and muzzle flash when the sound for each is activated.
Hope all are well , Good Building and Best to All

Have been more interested of late in details crude as they may be …..just have not wanted to get back into getting the running parts mounted and set …I am considering getting a sound system and found one online that I think I will like , it will depend on the sound sample I have requested and just how much it will be ,,,they offer the start , variable throttle and shut down of the 3 Mercedes diesels , and possible independent control ? of each , torpedo launch , a 20 mm burst of fire , and standard 37 mm firing , but I think they can switch that out for a 40 mm Bofers . Also along side as part of the system is a LED out put for simulated exhaust and gun flash …The wonders that money and technology can do ….
It took a bit of fitting and I went at it slowly but I finally got the refit armored kalotte, the kits original helms dash was about 1/8” to far forward to allow the kalotte to fit as required , that and the deck house needed to be trimmed back ….from that point it becomes detail work adding grab rails, and spray guards etc etc …

The trouble with closeups it shows just how bad I paint ….but at 6’ or 60 mph it will look ok ….sadly it’s the best I am able to do …oh to have my hands back …

Well made a little progress, I have fitted the commercial propeller shafts and rudder shafts , I hope some day to have the ability to make my own better than what I can currently do. As you can see in the photos I have temporarily have the motor placement , my plan is to put a removable shelf over the drive shafts and mount the speed controls , and receiver there given the amount of hull access this model has I can easy place the largest batteries in front of the motors and still adjust for trim based on my S-100. My S-100 has 3 1100kv motors on 2 3C pack , layout and available room did not let me add the 3rd battery, tho I may also be near the hull to waterline limit …The S-91 has 3 2218 motors left over from my Vosper builds , I felt during tub testing that they were a bit to hot for the hulls and went with 1800kv motors , a much wiser choice .
I continue to work the hull fitting in decks and the armored bridge modifications and have set the torpedo tube , but in my haste and enthusiasm did not paint the inside first as planned ..I have trimmed them back and will mount torpedo heads inside and have the ends closed off water tight , with the planned operating doors you should see the torpedoes in the tube and ready for launch . The Deck it self I have decided not to cut it , if only for the fact it will make the mounting of a clean look to the railings and it will give better water tight seal and access if and when needed by letting the deck flex at the mid point. The issue being that the bridge area is more problematic with designing both access and water tightness than I currently want to attempt. I foolishly gave my local hobby shop my short? Wish list and given as they jokingly replied that they had a health insurance bill …magically came up with one off the list , …I was ok until an unexpected bill came in …so that scream you heard was the plastic being bent β€¦πŸ˜¬, Ah we only live once and I can think of worst things to spend on …add another S-100 to the stash….😈

Yes I believe my Transmitter/receiver are programmable , I have two Turnigy GT5’s. I currently have not tried or know what/ how to do it I will at some point have to correct this . The projects I currently have or plan to do are the S91 , I would like to build 2 S-38’s , another S-100 and have in storage PT596, and Trumpeters 1/200th scale Bismarck and Rodney , …I foolishly gave my wish list to my local hobby shop and I may regret it ….lol the shot list is the rest of Trumpeters 1/200th scales and a flower class corvette …My life and finances be long enough for both I hope …lol

I am new to RC and have given this topic thought , as I have difficulty operating a stick radio , a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous and having a background in electrical and electronic assembly my thoughts run to a relay that would switch the polarity to the motor . Either brushed or brushless …I have looked at available relays and have yet to find anything to my liking but have a couple of double pole double throw switches that are rated for my current motors amperage. I was thinking of using a system where the switches would be mounted to activate off the rudder and that any turns would automatically switch the inside / turn direction motors polarity but not be effect the speed control. Is this something I could follow up on or is there a reason that electric speed controls or motor loads make this an unwise option?

I use a 6 channel land transmitter that you often see for RC cars and trucks …

From my build of the S-100, several issues I ran into I will try to correct on this build , the first being access and fit to the bow area, I begin by cutting the side armor over the torpedo tubes , this is to give a better fit and better water proofing to the boat also to make easier fitting to the modified bridge area . Due to the design of the S-38 type it affords me better access amidships for batteries, and maintenance. The biggest issue will be fitting the after market armored kalotte to the kits current bridge lay out.
I am still not sure if I will cut the main deck just forward of the depth charge racks to give access to the rudder area ,,,it seems most likely tho ..

It has been a bit from my last build(s) …and after a short break of building other kits non-RC and not boat related I have thrown myself into another build after my efforts on the RC conversion of Lindbergh’s Blue Devil Destroyer, a Fletcher class and odd scale are proving to require much more thought to get it to run to a satisfactory to my liking …it is a very narrow hull and much to top heavy to the point where my last outing with her bring her in was more akin to beaching a fish she laid on her side ….πŸ˜žπŸ˜–
Enough on that ,I was able to get an Italeri S-38 kit from my local hobby shop , and looking through my reference book on schnellboots , S91 caught my eye . This is a S38 type refitted with an armored kalotte. I am disappointed in Italeri on two reasons, the first is my fault in not understanding how to get or buy extra and or replacement parts for their kits ….I am at a loss as to how to work through their system ? …second is that the S38 does not have the standard armament of the mid ship Zwillingssockel of twin MG’s for aircraft defense, but they do include the later bow tube gun …Luckily, ICM does have a 1/35 scale of this mount as a kit , very detailed , at at the very limits of my ability due to my disability and lack of feeling in my hands . …I close with a few pictures and will answer why I am building the S91 as I am …much is due to the experience I gained in the long build of my S100…

Made it to the pond with my small fleet of 3 boats today ….Vosper 1 #78 ran better but still needs trimming out ,,,.Vosper 2 #74 ran flawlessly and my Schnellboot is still fast , but not without cutting our outing short due to losing a prop , my haste and over enthusiasm is showing with these mechanical issues…worst is I don’t think I am ready for an armada or a weekend club outing just yet ….😬.

Well I finally got the videos from Jr.’s phone and uploaded to YouTube ….this first one of Vs1 , I had a set screw back off and the motor moved in the ride over to the pond so not a very good showing , the second trial posted Vs2 is my attempt at the St Nazaire boat and I could not be more pleased with its performance….for a motor and a S2 Lipo setup …I have this winters projects lined up a scratch built armed trawler based off a Robbie hull and a Lindbergh Blue Devil Destroyer conversion for Jr. I also have ordered an Italeri 1/35 scale S-38 with crew, and Jr. has a 1/350 scale New Jersey by Tamiya that he wants RC’d …I don’t think I will be to bored ..lol.

Well first mistake was to leave my iPad at home, and let Jr. video the outing on his phone , the video is still on his phone …not enough spare memory to allow it to be emailed πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜–. The more damaging mistake was mine …I did not tighten the set screw on the coupler enough and as a result the Standard Vosper MTB ,,was not as fast or trimmed out as well as I had hoped and soon was losing speed due to the loose coupler…But The St. Narzaire Vosper #74 more than made up for my first poor showing ,,,she dances on the water at speed with nimble grace and is a joy to run , very stable and perfectly trimmed out …This boat I used a 3m commercial prop shaft and rudder assembly …if I can’t get my scratch home built prop shaft and rudder assembly to work as well , I will replace them the cost and effort required would be well worth the improved performance….I am hoping that Jr will visit the phone tech soon and get the issues solved with his phone as the video of the St.Nazaire Vosper I feel is something to watch …jmho ….lol ..next outing I will make sure I bring my iPad .

As part of the plan in the raid this Vosper would successfully launch two special torpedoes at water control flood gates to the dry dock , the β€œcage” was to push the anti torpedo net out of the way so they could be launched over the net , where they run and sunk by the gate and to later blow by a timer causing major damage that was repaired but delayed the use of the docks . It is sad that on completing the mission and then picking up wounded and survivors in trying to make an escape only to be hit with gun fire and sunk with only two survivors…..

I am still figuring out how to do pattern paint on a warship ,,,I have much to learn ..as to research I had only the on photo in β€œVospers in Action β€œ book and even that in my opinion shows her still being fitted out and only front on view….In the end I had to guess and to trust the instructions….I am the mess in the middle …she should look good underway and at a distance, just don’t look close .I am really looking forward to getting both Vospers out and the schnellboot at the pond this weekend and will post video if all goes well …

Having completed Vs1,I turned my attentions to Vs2…the special Vosper made for the great raid of St.Nazaire…again I beg forgiveness for my poor attempt she is not a follow the out of the box nor a true to life scale build…but it is the best I can currently accomplish. I hope to sea trial both Vospers this weekend. So I will upload a few more build pictures and try to patently wait to get to the pond .

Both Are 1/35 scale kits ….I have in my stash of kits Trumpters 1/200 scale Bismarck and HMS Rodney , I hope to add to that HMS Hood , and others …but first need to clear up a couple of older kits / projects for years ago …one a 1/32 scale PT boat and an old ABS Robbie Hull that I would like to some day complete as an armed trawler…If health and a bit of good fortune come my way I dream of a few other projects like a WWI Q ship …but I think that will end up being almost a total scratch build , something I am far from even starting never mind the space and tools needed…

As you stated below I installed screws in the deck that did not use the kits or their locations ….along with RTV ….as to access I us the hatch just behind the open bridge , any major work will require the decks removal…I try to keep water access to the inside of the hull to a minimum via hatches and the like until my skills or means improve with waterproofing…

I have spent a bit of time getting both hulls ready for a water test either fabbing up needed parts as I waited for the over the counter parts to arrive. After completing the required install of a rudder and motor I was delighted at the power that the motor put out ….I have since had time to think about my choices and now getting something a bit less hot ….I am still trying to understand the calculations for motors and batteries for a given hull . I will say this my first choice I now feel would not have ended in a good outing I can only imagine what the damage would have been to flip this model at speed would have resulted ….πŸ˜¬πŸ˜–. I include a few pictures of my efforts

Starting a separate blog for the pair of Vosper MTB’s that I am building , I got the special built kit of the St. Nazaire Vosper and a standard MTB of the same period. During a slow spot in my Schnellboot build bot kits have come together quickly , but the finer details of matching motors ,ESC, batteries and props takes time if you are not using pre-matched units . I don’t claim to know anything as to what I am putting together other than what I can study or see on line …so if you see any issues please point them out I would much rather learn the easy way than finding out the errors the hard way . In a fit of lazy I ordered a propeller shaft and rudders ,, but where they are now proving to be slow in arriving, my impatient drive to build I went ahead and made both rudder and propeller shaft with stuffing box using my limited scrap brass pieces . So at least one boat is moving toward the water maybe even for this summer or early fall …and not the six year build that the schnellboot took.
