Well, The Tug Atlantic was a no go!

So, I ordered the Tug Smit Nederland!

This is going to be a nice build.
I have many idea's in mind!
I'm going to incorporate independent throttling!
also independent smokers will be used as well!

    Her lighting will be tricky.
But with help from others on the website.
I'm sure I'll be able to put running light!

Her main power will be two 12 volt batteries!
But they will work independently of each other.
Via a switch! Kind of what's known as a guest switch!

    Well that's it for now!
ETA of arrival is Oct'3 for the kit!
Kit coming from across the pond!

    Stay tuned to further updates!๐Ÿ‘

    Doug,
In the past I have scaled up just using a calculator and a measurement stick.
    And that worked out fine
As you say I definitely need to finish up some things whilst I have the chance.

"I did think of scaling it up to make a nice big model."

All I can say to that 'think' Martin is

DON'T DO IT!! Have another thunk๐Ÿ˜

Especially as you claim that you can't draw๐Ÿ˜ฎ
You'd need to take hundreds / thousands (for the detailing) of measurements multiply by X and draw plans accordingly, getting all the angles right or you end up with gaps. It ain't easy. How do I know?
That's how I built my HMS Hotspur, scaling it up to 1/72 from an Airfix 1/600 model!
All by hand, no PCs or CAD in those days, mid 60s ๐Ÿค” I took it as an interesting challenge and cos I wanted to use my 1/72 Afrika Korps and 8th Army troops as crew.
Idea was triggered by having just learned Tech Drawing at school and watching Dad build the Sea Scout.
Reckon you've got enough other 'stuff' too amuse yourself with at the moment anyway๐Ÿ‘

I just Ordered the Futaba F14.
    Dual Throttle Controller!

My idea is for indepedant control.
Of her port and Starboard motors!

Also the controller is expandable to 12 or 16 channels.
Just imagine what can be done.
    To the the Smit Nederland!

    The F14 Controller i'm receiving.
Will be the 2.4 ghz radio!

Figures! I was thinking of an RC operated relay switch, such as I used for the "All ahead flank" command in my destroyer. Switched a second battery in series with the cruise battery.๐Ÿ˜‰

It is a setting on my TX ,but I can't remember at the moment how I did it.

    As you wish Commodore๐Ÿ˜
Dual throttles on a big boy is one thing.
I think you might find the response much quicker and more dramatic than you expect on a model though. Up to you. You can always change it later.
I'm going to upgrade my Southampton with independent engine control as well.
BUT: I will do it with a dual ESC and rudder mixer board.
Then I can operate both motors and rudder with one thumb on the right stick.
Leaving the left hand free to fiddle with function switches (or the Bierkrug๐Ÿ˜‹).
Attached is the data on the mixer board I will fit.
I will probably start with Mode 4 to see how it goes.
Then maybe experiment with Mode 3 for spinning on a dime๐Ÿ˜Š
    Cheers Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Hi Doug,

    OK, I have the CON!

    It sounds like a challenge.
To use dual throttles but it's not!

I'm quite use to using dual throttles.
In real live Tugs! It's quite nothing!

Oh, and the right gear ratio helps also!

So you'll have a "Tank tug" Ed ๐Ÿ˜‰
Not easy to steer a smooth course, but you could turn it round on it's backside if you want to ๐Ÿ˜ Good luck๐Ÿคž
Using two hands to steer you're going to need a third hand (or a First Mate) to control all the special functions.
    Happy juggling!!

My F14 controller arrive on schedule.
I was a bit confused with the unit!
I thought they sent me the wrong controller.
But, It turns out it the right controller!
I had ordered the 2.4ghz unit.
But, the unit comes marked 40mhz!

But, after looking around and reading.
The pamphlets it turns out it's 2.4ghz!

I thought I was going to have to send it back!

Now all I have to do is order.
    The batteries that it uses.
    Also order the chargers!
You would think for such a expensive radio.
They would give the battery packs.
But, I guess that's how they make their money!

I had also ordered the dual throttle controller.
Which I plan on installing shortly!

According to how this radio is configured.
I can add another 6 channels to it!

    That should be enough.
For what I'm going to do to her.
    Controls whise!

The F14 is quite a nice controller.

    It's extremely expandable from 8ch to I believe 32ch's!
I'm going to expand mine to another 12ch's!
For a total of 18ch''s maybe!

The controller doesn't come with well written instructions.
But, You can make out what to do to the controller!

The modification from double stick to dual throttle and stick.
Was fairly easy to do! It's all plug and play!

    It's some what intimidating.
    To look into the controller.
    And see all those wires.

But if you take your time.
it can be worked on with no difficulties!

It took me about half an hour.
    To do the modification!

But, I can't test the controller.
    Because it comes without batteries!

I was trying to source them form.
Cornwall model boats but they're out of them!

So, I'm going to have to wait.
To see who I can order from!

    Patients is a Virtue!!!!๐Ÿ‘

Comes with the Twin Stick already fitted.
Such a set also comes with a TX battery and an appropriate receiver.

    Hi Martin,

    I looked inside the controller.
    At first it's very intimidating.
But, I thought here goes nothing!

It was easier than I thought!
    Nothing to it!๐Ÿ‘

Now, when I go to do the upgrade.
I hope the module comes with documentation!

Looks good Ed. I was torn between the Futaba and the Frsky X9D Plus.
The Frsky won based on 16 channels built in and the Open TX firmware. The Futaba looks perfect but the cost of all the add ons can be significant. As yours, the Frsky has no usable instructions either.

    Looks good Ed,
I'm glad that doing the modifications did not give you any problems.
