Red, that makes me feel better. Nav lights are the same on aircraft too, as a former F-16 crew chief, you would think I’d know better. I know what I’ll do! I turn 59 this month, I’ll blame it on a pre-senior moment😂

Larry, the paint chart with the kit showed black, but in the garage light, I thought it was a very dark navy blue. Since I didn’t have a dark blue, I used what I had. I need new glasses🤣

Hi Cash,
You did a great job on her! I can't wait to see her on the pond! Cheers, Ed PS. I'm sure you'll get port and starboard sorted out! LOL.....😁 ▲

Cash,
Your 44MLB build looks like it is coming along really good. I am curious where you got the advice of the blue trim....all the 44MLB’s I served on had black trim. Diesel exhaust soot was/is always a nemesis on white hulls! Even helicopters! ▲

At least you noticed the nav lights before she hit the water at the club, otherwise you would never hear the end of it LOL!!

Nice one Cash - looking good as always with your builds.
Have a kit lying around somewhere bought for me in Hong Kong of all places years ago. Never built as the hull seems paper thin - how thick is yours? Could not think of a way to strengthen it without damaging the hull........... As to the light swap - my avatar Police Boat was built many years ago - switched on lights - ex who knew not much about boats commented "have you got the lights wrong" - sure enough nav lights on wrong sides.......Embarrassing to say the least ........... ▲

They are air intake chambers for the engines. Each one contain a float/plug that closes the air passage when the boat rolls over in the surf.

Hi Red!! Sorry I didn’t answer your question sooner. It’s pretty thin, you hold it to a bright light and it’s a little translucent. Little bit thicker than a disposable picnic cup, but better material if that helps.

Hey Cash!
Do you know what the box like shapes on the cockpit outer walls (Next to the firehose) are for? ▲

Cash you really are a spring chicken compared to some of us - even my 10 year younger better half is a good few years older than you........
Still haven't answered my query re the hull thickness....... With hands too big you still seem to be doing a great job........ Hate to admit was not even 40 when I blundered with the lights - could not blame it on anything - and I did not spot the mistake....... Good job it was fixed before going to the club........ ▲

Cash,
Looks good! BTW, the orange can contains a gas powered de-watering pump with suction hose and firehose. It can be deployed as firefighting apparatus or to pump out a sinking vessel. Can’t wait to see it run! ▲

Hi Red. Don’t know about the 52s axle, I’ll have to research that. The unit in my Hawk is a Dana, IIRC. The axle housing is a cast unit, axles at the drum end are tapered. Have to use a hub puller and a freakin’ big hammer to get the drum off. You torque it back on with the nut at 175 foot pounds...😮 Ask me how I know...🤣

Looking forward to seeing her on the water Cash - lovely job you have made of it altogether - If I did not have so many unfinished projects would sift through the stash and find the kit.........
Been looking for Commander pics on the Web - memory fails me apart from that it did not have the bullet nose. Looks like it was the 52 model 4 door V8 my dad had . Would have been nearly 68 years ago - can remember he grumbled about fuel usage...... Do you know if it had a split back axle which bolted together ? Know it collapsed and jammed solid on a railway crossing going on holiday to the Cape - fortunately train came once a week and it had been through the day before.........Very frightening at the time Apologies for the hijack of your thread........... ▲
