For quite a while I was content on building RC scale model boats, what I wanted to build, one model at a time. My first was a scratch built tug (42" L) about 50 years ago. Then came some kits and more scratch builds.
Next was two kits and a lot of detail parts that I bought at a very reasonable price followed by another very reasonable purchase, all from other MB builders. And, more give a-ways... a big load of electronics and epoxy paints.
But I wasn't prepared for what came next: Give a-ways! This started about three years ago when I was given two RTRs, an "Atlantic" tug and a USCG 47' MLB, both in pretty good condition except for the radios. I passed the tug on. Then came another "Atlantic" tug but in poor condition. I think I will make this into a "fire boat" - not one that puts out fires, but actually simulates being on fire. Should be a fun project.
About a year ago I was given a Krick "Dusseldorf" fireboat with a eight channel Spektrum radio. It was about 75% complete but not built right and not working, probably why the give away. I totally deconstructed this, lengthened the hull and will be getting back to this soon after I finish some armor projects.
I can't remember when the last time I actually bought a new boat from a store or shop.
All this as my "want to build" towboat has taken a back burner. Still, the fun continues.
