About this boat

Scratch built to 1/24th scale based on an 1/72nd Airfix kit, at first due to weight worries dropped the torpedos, finished as a gun boat, Main Gun is 1/72nd Airfix 5 pounder, minus wheels and trailer Arms, have squeezed in two motors running contra-rotating props and 20 volts worth of batteries, a bit of a squeeze, only way to get any speed out of her, (had too smile when I read in a Model boat letter page, that the writer was proud at squeezing a motor and 7.2volt battery in a similar sized MTB), by then I'd changed motors to higher revving motors, repositioning bow strakes (to stop bow digging in), and moving battery to rear now on only 7.2volts achieved better speed and endurance. Just recently after 5th Nov (2013) whilst out walking the dog, came across 2 plastic rocket launcher tubes, soon adapted as the missing Torpedo launchers, with little weight penalty.

Hi andi1. I was in a similar position at the beginning of December, having bought a bare hull with deck and luckily half a wheelhouse.the members on this site have been wonderful. They have helped with every stage I’ve been stuck at, she now finished and I had the maiden sail yesterday.luckily one member had a spare set of masts that he sold me, although I had to make the booms from scratch. another member supplied a Digital copy of the plans which I would be happy to send to you. If you send me your email icon do this privately. That’s why I’ve done this private message, it’s never a good idea to openly show your email on the web!.if you’re new to the site, look at my profile by tapping my name and you will see a box that says send private message. That’s what I’ve just done to send you this. Here’s an idea. Of what instructions etc I’ve got, plus loads of photos of the real Inga.

Hi Andi1 like I mentioned yesterday I am only to happy to pass all the info I have to you, I have the original kit instructions and parts list, which has some sizes, material types that helped me immensely. Roycv a fellow member fortunately had a spare set of unmade masts that I built up, this left just the booms to make. The cross sections-sizes are on the drawings, as for the grooves I have a table saw with a thin blade that I used to cuts slots in a seasoned piece of pitch pine, once happy with that detail I trimmed the wood down to the external size required. I then shaped and rounded it to the finished booms. The sails I made up from cambric cotton sheet I purchased on line, i hemmed the edges and slid 1.7mm rigging string in, this with the sail thickness slides into the mast/boom grooves really well and does not pull out under pressure of the wind.my email is rogerallsop118@ gmail.com send me an email when you are sorted and I can forward you all the sheets of info I have. The plans are unfortunately not to scale and are A4 sheet size but I didn’t find this a problem. Roger.
