"Rainbow" 1934 J-Boat Class Racer

This Is a kit #974 by Midwest, and Is designed for display. The parts are die cut basswood and mahogany. Fittings are brass, with some acessories plastic. Everything Is a build-up, Including the mast and boom.
The hull: mainframes were assembled on the keel, and attached to a strongback for planking. Bow, stern, and keel blocks were Installed. The whole thing Is sanded to shape, sins filled, epoxied, and painted. Currently where I am now.

Mariner Is my QA.

The Wife and I like lighthouses and boats.

40w solar panel

Solar panel is connected to this charge controller
Here is the box the panel came in

My question is this a safe way to charge a 7.2v NiMH battery pack
My Multimeter
I have a Colman 40w solar panel which was bought to trickle charge a battery of a RV camping trailer.

I brought it out to try it on my lawn tractor battery. It brought it back to full charge after a few hours.

The amperage is 7A max it says but I understand the Amperage will vary depending upon the weather conditions.

My question is, will harm myself or the 7.2 v battery pack if the solar panel was used to charge the pack? The panel is connected to the controller seen in the photos.
