The instruction for this model where in with some of the parts . I tend not to follow them .Plans call for hull deck to be put on before planking of hull So I put the Bulwarks on first that made more sense to me .Parts list has 105 parts I only have a quarter of the parts so it should be fun making 75 parts. I wanted to donate to wed site but can't afford monthly BUT I found a way to give a single Donation to wed site because times are getting tight these days with food prices, etc.

Started planking ordered a tool will get it Monday so we will wait to see how good they work on planking hull instead of pins & rubber bands. Most static kits have full frames & deck needs to be installed first so planking gets to be hard to do with out a spot to clamp plank .

My parts for planking came to day seemed to work O/K. I just needed to drill a pilot hole so the screw could be put in frame easier .

Just a little update on the Swift. I managed to finish hull planking and them little sticks. Between snow blower fixing Christmas shopping & turkey stuff with the wife. Failed fixing snow blower so had to shovel that nasty snow stuff. Found instruction for the Swift seems them little sticks are called Timberheads just learned something new 🤔

Hope Santa gave every one something nice for Christmas . I took a little time away from the Swift so today I decided to put the rudder on and that's always tricky without the parts .So made do with things in the miscellaneous drawers .

Mast and cabins built & installed. Masts are always tricky to install the secret is to set them up with glue and don't touch them until glue is set & hope they are straight .I found two cannons in a junk drawer so that's why there's the holes on side of the hull Swift had no cannons but they will look good on the deck.

Stayed inside today -9C today so made a new cradle for the Swift . I always find that difficult because of the shape of the hull . Added a barrel of rum & a couple of cannons just to be safe . Our Club is invited To the Toronto Woodworking Show Jan 17,18,19 I will go Friday the 17th & I enjoy setting up the 1805 Swift & will do the rigging just to show visitors how model boats are made. The main jib will need to be change & added pump & cabin vents also .

Dead Eyes are always hard to do so I invented a little jig up with alligator clips so I can glue lines in the dead eyes that I found in another junk drawer . Next step will be gluing eyes to the model from mast to the hull.

    re: your deadeye jigrig:
Jigs - no two alike, but every one handy.

I have been thinking about jigs recently since I am building a 35" long plank on bulkhead model and doing the hull without a jig, doing all the aligning by what my friend Donald calls the eyerometer. Not a good idea, say most of my modelling friends, but I'm not so sure. When things look good to the eye they usually are good. Jigs are certainly important when they aid in positioning small bits, as is the case with your deadeyes, or tiny soldering jobs.

On your interesting 1805 pilot boat, what makes it a pilot boat? Was it just a regular boat put into service by pilots, or did it have specific features suited to pilot service?

Finished up the rigging on the Swift Virginia Pilot Boat 1805.I have sail fabric but unsure if I want to do that headache . I just thought it would look neat stuck in a snow bank at -6 Celsius.

    Canadian, Eh?

You realize that's the motto of Canada?

STUCK IN A SNOWBANK AT -6 DEGREES?
