Before moving on to the finishing details, here is the construction of the main hold hatch cover and the wooden sleeves designed to hold it securely in place.
These parts form the basic structure of the hatch before adding the decorative touches.

These parts form the basic structure of the hatch before adding the decorative touches.
Rather than leaving the hatch cover plain, I decided to add a little extra detail.
I used thin strips of natural wood to create a contrasting pattern against the dark green panels.
I really like how the lighter wood stands out against the green, giving the hatch a more distinctive and realistic appearance.
Later on, I added metal rings to complete the detail and give the hatch more of an authentic working-boat look.

Painting the Hull and Adding the Gunwales
Once the automotive primer had dried, it was time to give Artur her distinctive colors.
I painted the bottom of the hull red, added a white waterline stripe, and finished the upper sections in black and white. The contrasting colors really brought the hull to life!
I also added two 1/16-inch-square mahogany strips along the sheer of the hull.
These fine wooden details provide an attractive contrast against the painted surfaces and help define the boat's elegant lines.
Making My Own Gunwales
Rather than assembling the six separate pieces supplied in the kit to form the gunwales, I decided to make my own in just two pieces.
I felt this approach would produce a cleaner, stronger, and more continuous finish along the sides of the hull.
Sometimes, a little improvisation can make a real difference in a model build. In this case, I was much happier with my solution than with the original arrangement provided in the kit.

The Lifeboat and Its Canvas Cover
The kit supplied a fabric-like material with a self-adhesive backing to represent the lifeboat cover. I decided to add a little more detail to it. Using the paper backing that protected the adhesive, I cut and shaped triangular markings to create the appearance of a traditional canvas cover secured around the lifeboat.
The lifeboat is mounted on the after deck, but it serves another purpose as well. I designed its mounting arrangement so that the boat can be lifted off to provide access to the rudder servo arm underneath. This keeps the steering mechanism accessible without sacrificing the finished appearance of the deck.
It's a small detail, but one that combines realism with a practical solution to a maintenance issue.

Building a Custom Display Stand
Here is another one of my crazy creations! I wasn't particularly happy with the display stand supplied with the kit, so I decided to design and build my own.
The inspiration came from a picture I found on Pinterest. I liked the idea of a wooden cradle that would support the hull at several points while giving the model a more substantial and attractive presentation.
This project also gave me a chance to put my recently purchased **Proxxon table saw** to work.
As some of you may remember from our earlier discussion on the forum, this was one of my new workshop additions. It proved very useful for cutting the wooden pieces needed to build the stand.
I assembled the framework with crosspieces, angled supports, and shaped blocks to cradle the hull securely. After finishing the construction, I gave the stand a protective coat of clear finish.
Speaking of finishes, I used **Rust-Oleum Satin Clear Enamel** on the entire boat. It provides a protective coating while preserving the warm appearance of the wooden decks and superstructure and giving the painted hull a consistent finish.
I'm much happier with this custom stand. It complements Artur's appearance and gives her the support and presentation I had in mind.

Another small detail that wasn't included in the kit was the **anchor-chain deck pipe**.
Naturally, my obsession with getting things as close to scale as possible wouldn't let me leave it out! 😄
I made it from styrene tubing, carefully shaping and modifying it to represent the real fitting.
It's a very small detail, but I wanted it to look right and function visually as it would on the full-size vessel.
It took a little ingenuity and patience, but that's part of the fun of this hobby—sometimes the smallest details are the most satisfying to create!

And here is another detail that wasn't included in the kit: the **anchor davit**, which I scratch-built using leftover brass rods and small copper rings.
Rather than leave this feature out, I decided to make my own version from the materials I had available in the workshop.
It took some careful bending and fitting to get the shape right, but I think the result adds another touch of realism to the model.
For me, that's one of the greatest pleasures of this hobby—looking at a small detail, figuring out how to reproduce it, and creating something from scratch when the kit doesn't provide it!

Another Tiny Detail on ARTUR — The Life Raft Release Mechanism
Another small but beautiful detail I couldn't resist adding to *ARTUR* was the life raft container bracket, complete with a tiny, scratch-built hydrostatic release mechanism.
Creating something this small was quite a challenge, but I really enjoyed figuring out how to reproduce the details at scale. The bracket and release hardware may be tiny, but I think they add a great deal of realism to the model.
Unfortunately, I didn't take any step-by-step photos. When I get so involved in creating something like this, I become so absorbed in the process that I completely forget to stop and take pictures!
