Building a Springer

Start

June 13th 2011

I was wondering what to do with some thin ply that I'd got when dismantling some drawers and starting my first Springer seemed the obvious answer! I'd been facsinated by the Springer forum in Model Boat Mayhem so this seemed to be my time for having a go at scratch building.
I planned to use various bits I'd had hanging around, powered by this old 500ish motor, don't really know anything more about it, it has a sticker stating 'Duplex Craft Co.
67/69 Kirkdale Rd South Wigstone on it and it seems to run OK. I had a shaft and a 3 blade 35mm prop and 2 x lead acid 6v 4.5Ah batteries.

Didn't know about what topsides might emerge at this stage, it might be just another Tug type although the thought of 'Ark Springer' with a Harrier type ramp does keep coming to mind!

    HI Chris

looks neat. So is there a standard size or anything for Springers?

Trial and Tug

July 7th 2011

Tried the hull under R/C power at Crealy lake on Sunday and all seems OK so have progressed a bit further.

No Ark Springer this time as the inner Tug boat seems to have emerged!

That would be good but having got 6 grandsons now, I think a few more Springers might come first! Also having had a history of collapsing motors and ESC's on my Fireboat & Seaplane Tender another thought in building it was that it seemed a good insurance to have something operating on the old Tx system that might be able to rescue them.
