Thanks for the comments yโall. I agree with Rooky about Graupners kits. They sometimes take the long way around to get something done, when there is an easier way to accomplish the same thing. However, I like the German kits, Robbe, Graupner and Krick. Might be a little nostalgia as the first boat kits I built were when I was stationed at Ramstein, and I enjoyed every one of them. However, some of their aircraft kits were a little over-engineered. I helped a buddy build a Robbe Parat for electric power back about โ91 or so. As we were building, I was literally chunking wood to the side muttering โdonโt need this, that is too heavyโ etc.
That Parat flew nicely, and we actually had it thermalling a time or two.๐ ▲

Nice building Cash,๐ Graupner kits are a bit of a puzzlement at times, built many and found easier ways of doing things than graupner notes say, but you seem to be doing the build perfect so far, looking forward to the next bit๐

Thanks for the help Doug. Anything you come up with will be greatly appreciated.
Yep, Iโve thought about building a gunboat from the Civil War, either side, but Iโm pretty sure if I built either boat it would offend somebody, somewhere. Thatโs the problem with my country. No middle ground, were like the old reed radios of the 60s. Hard left or hard right, no one seems to understand that life is like todays radios, proportional. Gโnight!! Cash ▲

"Hey Doug? You seem to have a wealth of arcane naval knowledge.."
Mornin' Cash, Thank you for your confidence and faith in my 'encyclopedic' knowledge!๐ But I have to admit that I mostly concentrate on WW2 and modern warships, with occasional excursions into the WW1 origins of some of the famous WW2 vessels. BUT: I have some ideas I want to check.๐ Victorian RN or 19th century USN. In which case I would tend towards a white or cream hull. I think maybe the Confederate Navy might be appropriate for you? Or is that not Politically Correct in these crazy times?๐ค Cheers, Doug ๐ ▲

What Iโm thinking is to put some small narrow strips directly under the fwd fairing, something I can screw down the fairing down to. The aft fairing can use the transom support. This way, Iโll still be able to get the floor out with a minimum of effort if needs be.
Hey Doug? You seem to have a wealth of arcane naval knowledge...Iโm thinking about doing this boat up as a ships boat, captains launch or โjolly boatโ from the mid 1800s to maybe early 20th century. Trying to find paint or trim schemes for a smaller boat of that type, maybe one with 2 rowers side by side with the officer of the day looking on, with a national flag and ships/officerโs pennant to boot. RN or USN. Any ideas? I know Iโll have to find/make/modify smaller figures, and the uniforms will be another matter entirely, but if you know of any references Iโd be eternally grateful. If anybody else is reading this, same goes, donโt think itโs rude to chime in. I can build the boat and get her running, but to get from where most of these boats end up to what Iโm seeing in my poor, old tortured mind is gonna take some help. Thanks!! Cash ▲

Hi Cash,
So far so good๐ "while the fwd fairing just drops in place and is kept loose for whatever reasons that I have not yet ascertained." I assume that by fairings you are referring to the fore and aft deck pieces? Seems to me that one of them must be removable. Otherwise you would not be able to remove the floor piece, or even insert it if you glue both decks down before fitting the floor๐ค Unless you can somehow make the floor in two sections? "From what Iโve read so far, the floor is designed to be removable as it carries the radio and rowing mechanism". Just a thought๐ค Cheers, Doug ๐ ▲

Nery, she might be a dory, but Iโm not sure. Itโs a Graupner kit, so I donโt know if itโs based on an American or European design, or if itโs just a โgenericโ rowboat.
To be honest, I think sheโd make a pretty steam launch. Cash ▲

Hi Cash,
Good progress. Looking great so far. I find the oar movement quite mesmerising. Youโre right about ghosting. It really doesnโt look right unless there are hands on the oars. Bionic Bill let go of one oar while out rowing last week and it looks real strange. One bystander was heard to say โ how can he make the oar move without holding onto it?โ ๐ Graham93 ▲

Thanks Ed. The Tina comes with a figure thatโs jointed so it moves with the oars, but Iโm thinking either a sailor from the late 1800s, a superhero or a toy stuffed squirrel. I โghostโ a lot of my boats but I canโt quite get away with that on this boat๐

Hi Martin. Yeah, sheโs loud. My daughter called it โannoying โ to which I repliedโyou should knowโ๐คฃ
Anyway, I still have some rigging, fitting and painting to do, and the mechanical plate isnโt bolted down yet so that might make her a bit loud..but then again, all the Tinas Iโve seen on YouTube are noisy too๐ณ ▲

Hi Cash,
Test it again in some wet stuff and I think you'll find that the water will deaden the sound considerably. Suspect the main source of noise is the gear box!?๐ Cheers, Doug ๐ ▲

Hi Pete. I think the hull acts a soundbox, but it doesnโt get really noisy till I add the oars. Wonder if they are transmitting the sound from the rowing mechanism to the hull?

Hi Ed. The kit came with a figure that is jointed, donโt know if it was originally part of the kit or an optional โfittingsโ kit. Still up in the air who I want rowing this thing. Iโm really leaning towards a stuffed squirrel, or a Marvel superhero..Ant-Man maybe..

Greetings Cash, the 'Tina' seems much better after you added the gearbox, does the boat hull act as a soundbox? or is it that these motors are just noisy!

Try Drilling it and put a taper dowel in if you get stuck. Taper reamers and pins you can get from a good model engineering supplier.

Hi Cash, sorry to hear about the mishap. From what I have been reading on other model sites this seems to be a common problem with the brass collar pushed in the plastic moulding most people glue them in and use teflon grease on the worm thread and gear too cause less friction and less wear.
