Has anyone built this model? It's from a Model Boats plan.
I started to about 4 years ago and got 'writers block' I'm not sure which size or type of wood to plank the frame. All my other boats have been built onto fibreglass hulls. Your help would be appreciated.

    Well done Doug.
I see you found then on Vintage Model Plans in Canada (Link Given) These people are quite good.
I am trying to get Tarpons Plans as I need to finish my fathers Tarpon from them. The advantage is they have quite a bit of the magazine write up. Trouble is living in SA they want US$ 120.00 for track and trace, I have asked them if possible an electronic copy.

    OK Chalkie, I got it😊 a 1:40 scale 32" LoA model. April 2011 issue.
    https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=Model+Boa...
MV Clupea (named after a fish!) Fisheries research ship.
Later converted to an SAR vessel for Lifeline, fishing refugees out of the Med.
Interned in Malta to an ownership / flag of registration dispute.
Last converted (2009?) to a hydrographic survey ship?
Plan, of the original as builtt version, was by James A Pottinger. A very good subject with lots of interesting options.
Given the rounded stern shape and highly flared bow I would be tempted to do those using carved balsa blocks. Done in 10 or 20mm slices. Had to do that with the stern of my Danish fish cutter restoration😁
Planking on my Billing fish cutter looked like approx 1mm x 10mm planks, possibly lime (bass wood) or birch. I strengthened it inside and out with glass tissue and EzeKote resin.
The wood working experts, like Graham93, on here can probably help you better with the wood type.
You could even use 1/16th or 1/8th balsa if you strengthen it with something like diluted (ca 10-15% waterπŸ˜‰) EzeKote and two coats of neat EzeKote (FG tissue to tasteπŸ˜‹) when the planking has been applied and glue is cured.
Hope this helps a bit. Good luckπŸ‘πŸ€ž
    Cheers, Doug 😎

    Exactly RickπŸ‘

Chalkie: Can you give us the number of the MB plan, or the date of issue (month & year) of the MB mag it was in please. Would help enormously.
    Cheers, Doug 😎

Without seeing the plans or boat it is hard to give a lot of advice. For me I use basswood as my planking product usually 3/16 or 1/8 stripes by 1/4 width.I find basswood is strong yet flexible enough to use.
I hope this helps a little.
