HI all, I have decided to venture Into the deep and build my own boat from scratch, the Idea was to have a sail boat that can get back If the wind dies down. Here In South Africa we have very few shops that have parts for boats so this will be Interesting.
Step one was to get some plans and modify to what I really wanted so I use a normal sail boat plan from the Internet, thanks to the free sites
Next cut out the paper then the balsa wood, I was always nervous of this and did not realise how easy It Is as long as you work slowly.
The plans help a lot to visualise and with sizing up, the biggest challenge I had was the curve of the wood especially on the bottom of the hull, I now have a gap to fill In.
Then came the deck and the housing etc all drawn out first then cut and glued.
The keel Is my own Idea as I want to fit a propeller still.
Finishing touches and painting , then the mast and sails and electrics and and and
but Its great fun and I would recommend anyone to try It rather than sit back wanting to, but too nervous as I was all these years.
