Hi
Can't find the free plan you mention in Model Boats or Marine Modelling international, which mag and year was the plan issued?
Not knowing the type of model you are building makes giving advice somewhat difficult.
Checked on the web for johnsons660 motor and found:
Johnson 660
19 mm long 3mm diam shaft
8-20 Volt Dc
No load speed 6600rpm
Torque output at 12VDC and 2.5 amperes 6oz per inch
5pole armature
3mm mounting holes
However there are different suppliers for this motor:
Powerspeed 660
Voltage range: 3.6-8.4V RMP unloaded: 19,000 Current @ max. efficiency: 12A Weight: 213g Shaft diameter: 3.2mm Motor diameter: 37.8mm,
does your motor actually say johnson660? if you Google johnson660 you will see various suppliers, and pics of the motors, which should help you identify which you have.
The first motor would need a 10 to 15amp ESC whilst the second would need at least a 25amp. 😀

HI glassicus
Welcome to the site
Depends on your price range really.
Also what battery voltage do you intend to use. Some ESC's have a fairly low max voltage.
We can give you a more valid answer with a little more info Ie what prop and the max amps you expect your model to draw? 😀
