    To switch both wires i think the switch is called a DPST (double pole single throw)

    There are all sorts of switches that will do different jobs.

    Normally it is the red wire.

    It also depends on what type of switches you use as you can switch both wires at the same time.

    To set up a switch for the battery which side red or black is better or is ether side OK.
