About this boat

A 1970's built sailing barge I thought she was a thames barge and dyed the sails then realised she wasn't one. Now masquerading as a pirate ship and giving an explanation to my user name. (Motor: Mother Nature) (ESC: accoms 27Mhz) (7/10)

I don't think you are too far out Brian. No, she's not a Thames Barge, but if she is flat bottomed and has leeboards, then she could be one of the big barges. Most were rigged like Blue Pearl and had. as far as I can see, a hull similar to hers, though some had a clipper bow. They were bigger than most Thames Barges and were intended for real sea going coasting voyages. A couple even ended up in South America
The red sails are fine, many big barges had dressed sails like a Thames Barge. I have seen photos of a boat like yours sailing with the Association of Model Barge Builders at their regular races. There is an excellent book, called 'The Big Barges' by Hervey Benham and Roger Finch.

    But not when you're underway.
And the crew is hiding as well!
    That's sneaky😮😉
"The Esc wasn't making the wind blow hard enough"
Give the crew more beans before sailing Bryan 😁😂

I should explain the Red sails. When I first got her I thought I was the proud owner of a thames barge. The sails looked right and it was a barge. So I dyed the sails red and started building the drop keels for each side. While on sea trials another guy brought along his thames barge which made me realise that mine wasn't a thames barge. So in desperation she became the "Blue Pearl" Scorge of the seven lakes. She is harder to sail but has many kids wishing it was theirs.
