Paul, by the time Campbell died he was using his own make of jet boat (water jet, not pure jet) in small powerboats. it's thought it was one of these that caused the ripple problems. He used an Albatross in his earliest attempts on Ulswater.

Mainly he felt the pressure of the press expectations, just as they did with CN7, the car.
