Thanks for the photo, looks like you have a nice model there, a bit of TLC should have it looking good once more.

Best to give Mike a call to confirm paint colours, as mentioned previously my project is just a skeleton at the moment.
See photo's attached of my build progress, note the brackets and fixing blocks screwed to the baseboard to hold the keel perfectly straight during construction.
Nobody wants a banana shaped boat, it would just go round in circles LOL.!!

I bought the 46" wooden kit a couple of years ago, from Vintage Model Works, got as far as building the hull ( Keel and bulkheads ) skeleton only no ply cladding yet.
Had to shelve the project due to other commitments, but hope to get back to the build soon.
MIke at Vintage Model Works was very knowledgable about the historic Keil craft kit and the new kit he now sells is every bit as good as the original.

    Photographs of the prototype attached.

    HI Mark,

I didn't see the spec sheet, I'll have a look, the fact it cures in 5 mins ( there is also a 30 mins curing version as well) and is resistant to sea water, make this a good contender for model boat making. The smallest tube is 310ml, but even that will go a long way in the model world, with the risk of it outliving it's 6 month shelf life, I have sealed the nozzle on my bottle as best I can, time will tell if it will still be usable beyond this time limit.

I recently discovered Lumberjack 5 minute wood glue, great stuff and resistant to sea water 100% waterproof, foams up just like Goriila glue and like it says on the bottle, cures in five minutes.

    Best of luck.

No disrespect to the press but they do seem to have quite a lot to answer for, one way or another over the years.
    Still a tragedy even so.

Thanks for the info Martin, very interesting to hear how these were made, with rivets and all. I bet the builders must have got real job satisfaction from working on them.

I believe the demise of Donald Campbell was that he made a return run in Bluebird and hit his own wake, which flipped the boat over - what a tragic end for such a pioneer.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

I am not familiar with the Albatross, so I have just googled it, what a little stunner, nice lines, I bet she is nice to sail in.

    Martin,
It's good to hear of other peoples appreciation of these craft and the splendour they provide, the attractive shape of the hull and quality of materials used, along with the luxury finish made these boats the legend that they are.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

    HI Martin,
That's interesting to hear about the history of these boats, it sounds as if the quality is only skin deep, if the hidden parts are not finished to the same quality as the exterior.
I am a qualified Joiner by trade, I would have liked to see some of the joinery details you mention.
I guess I will have to be content to make the best job I can of my Model.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

    HI Martin,
I have not seen this model made of solid resin.

The kit I have is very well made out of cnc cut plywood, it all fits together very well and the fittings are beautifully chromed, the seats are made of faux leather and are equally of high quality, so it would seem that AmatI have made a big Improvement.
    Regards,
    Paul.

Here are some photos of the build, this was started a couple of years ago, so for anyone thinking of getting one of these, they are very well made and the materials are of very high quality.- enjoy 😊

    HI Stephen,

Great piece of work, very good.

By now you should have a mountain made of mud and twigs in your front room that resembles the landing site !!!.

    Kind Regards,

    Paul.
