I race IOM yachts and have used the continuous loop system and it works well the RMG Website from Australia gives guidance on setting up the winch system for their winches

Get the book by Vic Smeed and it will have all the answers. I have a few yachts and some run on one winch. These are Rob Guyatt winches which are expensive but one I purchased was fourteen(14) years ago and still runs fine and I sail in saltwater. One yacht uses two winches, one for each sail, because the guy who built it some forty(40) years ago overbuilt the insides. A quick search of the internet will give you all the information. Regards
