Add Strakes.
Some of the older boats that I have salvaged and rebuilt, or restored have had new strakes added to the hulls, even though they were never fitted previously.
In some cases, I did this purely for the improved appearance, but in every instance it was also to improve the performance of a hull that I thought would run better with strakes added.
In each case the area of the hull that was to have strakes added needed to be stripped back to bare wood to allow a good bond to secure the strakes onto the hull for long term regular use.
Some hull bottoms were stripped completely of paint, but some only had channels of bare wood exposed where the strakes were to be fitted.
Both methods have been long-term tested by myself as I run my restored and/or rebuilt Classic Model Power Boats on a regular basis most weeks of the year.
