Someone asked on hear if some white metal hydrants could be bored to make them Work they had had 1 failed attempt and was asking the best way to do it, I suggested I would look at it to see what I could do, I can see why I hate white metal.
so decided to make some in brass, they will be about the weight as the barrels are solid normally I have found brass fittings lighter but not this time .
anyway some pictures I started grinding a Lath tool to match the original I had been sent as I wanted to make it match if I could so it will work with the base he has,
getting started

I ground a cutter for the lath to match the original, I want to keep it similar so it looks ok on his base, I had a search for what material and did the first one this always takes longer as you have to work out how it will be held at different stages, I had to think about what size of holes . anyway this is the first one, drilled and ready to be parted

when you are doing a few you need to make jigs so they all come out the same It makes It a lot easier anyway, once you come up with a sequence It Is just a case of following It for each one I will be making a jig for soldering so It can all be done In one go I was going to hard solder the handles In to the barrel but I have no Pickle at the moment so It will take a long time to clean up so It Is soft solder.the Inlet tube Is Intentionally off centre as I don't want It to foul the base with the tube.
