Hi Guys,
I decided that I would do a sort of a build log on this wacky project.
This is another crazy idea that has been buzzing around in my head for a while.
I have not used any measurements,drawings,plans,or photos.
A Totally experiment !
It should work if I get it right.
This will be a 2 channel surface runner when completed.
I will not log every stage as it will get extremely boring, but if you have any questions then I will answer them as I go along.
EVOLUTION is built around a drinking water bottle.
The first job was to attach some magnets so that the front will detach from the main body.
The water bottle is just to stop the electrical stuff from getting wet.
In this log the photos will tell the story.(hopefully)

Thanks guys, I only did the woodwork, wife did the rest.
I will tell her you liked her garden/craft room. As we both enjoy modelling it made sense for her to have a craft room herself. Just needs the electrician to connect the sockets and lights next week. I've already run the cable from my garage to it. Anyway thanks again for the kind comments. Cheers Colin and Caroline. ▲

You can't beat a shed or two ,I got my new one as the wife was sicklooking at the odds and sods built from old doors and windows salvaged from skips she called it district 9 after the film of that name.

You could always build a new workshop from recycled stuff.
My wife's new garden room was an old scrap shed for firewood we found on freecycle, stripped and rebuilt using more scrap wood, a coat of new paint, some old greenhouse glass turned into windows. Now I have peace and quiet in my own workshop. Cheers Colin.

Looks like a shark tooth - modelling a megladon then?????
Lots of real Great Whites around here - running in the sea you have to be sure your boat does not look like a seal.... Southern Right whales also a hazard as they come to calve here from June to November usually. ▲

I decided to use the water bottle after doing some experiments for a watertight compartment for a submarine as it has a really good seal to prevent the water from getting in.
I am still tinkering with that idea for a WTC but it is throwing up a few problems that need sorting out. ▲

Due to the fact that I have totally run out of fresh air glue I have had to make a rough framework to have something to glue to.
As this is mainly a model boat web site I have stuck to a water based project.
All the plans for this are still swimming around in my head.
Now you can see why I blame the medication LOL!
I did say that it is a wacky project as you will see as I go along.

Just a little update.
This is how I made some bones for Evolution.
Using my recycled plastic I glued little off cuts on top of each other allowing it to dry.
Then I use a smaller electric drill with a small burr bit and let it do it own thing.
You can see in the photos the effects it creates.
This is less model making more like sculpting.
It is not going according to plan but it is different and I think it will work out alright in the end if I up my medication.

Take it you are going to use a flotation device Martin - as my son once said after we had eaten a Red Roman (fish not a Communist) - the bare bones still on the serving dish - "That fish wont be able swim now will it daddy..........."

Head section now complete, I have put different textures on the bones.
This little project is trickier to make than I thought it would be.
Things are not going according to plan it seems to be one problem after another, I should of given this a lot more thought.
Still I must carry on regardless.

Head section now complete, I have put different textures on the bones.
This little project is trickier to make than I thought it would be.
Things are not going according to plan it seems to be one problem after another, I should of given this a lot more thought.
Still I must carry on regardless.

The plan is. To have this as a two channel surface runner.
As I go along You will see how difficult it might be to ballast it correctly. It will be a bit of a challenge to get it right, I may even have to make a flotation tank to fit in the head section. Time will tell! Martin555. ▲

Hi Guys,
Prop shaft fitted.
I found an old long plastic spoon in the shed and decided to cut it up to use for the spine.
I am beginning to wish that I hadn't started making this, it is a real pain and things are not working out as I had planned.
Perhaps is the medication wearing off LOL!

Hi Doug, I'll drag it out of the shed when I get a sec and take a few pics etc (crappy weather at the mo). I'll check the vid I did and see if I can chuck it on YT. Pretty easy to build. Used PTEG sheet to mold canopy (bought a 6x4 sheet and cut to suit frame.

Hi John, Any chance of some build instructions? Especially the heater! A vacform box is something I've been considering. Got enough powerful vacuum cleaners kicking about in the cellar😁 What do you use to make the forms? Put it in a Build Blog or even perhaps 'General Resources'. You think you've got problems Martin ! should have seen how many dozen mods I had to do to this plane (built almost from the one Photo scaled up plus 5 others,) - only one prototype ever made in late 40s by a tiny US company.
Even had to make my own vacuum forming machine/device and heater just to make the canopy. Don't even know if it will fly. Has flaps and electric retracts which were a nightmare to fit, - modified the wing almost to the point of throwing it in the bin, but it worked out in the end. Sure you will manage to get past your problem with your imagination and skills. Perhaps some 'green' medicine might broaden your perceptual horizons???😁😀😊💡 John B

Knocked up a temporary jig to form more bone shapes.
Using the cut spoon piece for the spine centre, and some thin plastic red tube for the push rod guide.
A lot of sanding required!
The photos show the jig and the bone before and after sanding.

Hi Marky,
I don't use any heat at all. All I do is use layers of the plastic and glue, like a sandwich then squeeze them in the jig and allow to dry. When dry they hold there shape. And shaping the the bones around the head I was just a case of laying the plastic on some hard foam and rolling it with a piece of wood dowling. Martin555. ▲
