Roy,
Let me get them packaged up. I am not sure which shipping will be easiest and least expensive. I will contact you in a day or so.
cheers

Re: MonoPerm

Hi Roycv,
I did not forget you! I have packaged up 1 Decaperm pile drive, 1 Hectoperm pile drive, and 3 hectoperm 2:1 geared motors. There are also a stack of additional pile drive gears and housings.
In all, the Box weights 7lbs, and is 11" x 11' x 7"
I can ship it(expensive) or you can do a courier pick-up, your choice. Whichever you chose, I will need shipping information and Customs form. I think I can get the form from the US Postal Service, but if you do the courier route, their form may be better.
Please let me know.
Cheers
Jonathan

Re: MonoPerm

HI Roy,
😂 I am happy to see that others have these moments too! To be fair, I guess that I did not make terribly clear where I was. I am sorry that this did not work out. I would like to find someone who can benefit from these motors as I will not be using them.
Cheers

Progress on the keel fror Bruma

Hi Roy, Hope you are all well. Not had much chance to work on my Bruma as my wife wanted various jobs doing in the garden before we have a family BBQ on the 23rd to celebrate her 70th. So I've been pointing up crazy paving, removing flaking paint from metal chairs and table and then re painting! Anyway here is my solution for suspending the extended removable keel to the Bruma. I've used 2x 3mm collets and replaced the grub screws with longer bolts which will also stop the rods turning when tightening up as you recommended. On the completed one I've also superglued in the bolt and also the collet into the hole. The one lying on the surface is to show the collet before fitting by sliding it down the 3mm hole drilled in the top of the keel into which the collet will be placed in the 8mm hole. I used a pointed wooden BBQ skewer to help lining up the two components.
Also a friend has given me some lead sheets to eventually experiment with! Any comments gratefully received. Cheers Duncan.😊

Thanks for your great tip!

Hi Roy,

Just wanted to thank you for your method/tip about gluing the strengthening piece of plywood onto one side of the keel before cutting slots for the keel tubes. I think I might have just cut straight through the keel and would have then had difficult lining up the two sides of the keel! The method has worked really well - I believe. I had to wait quite a while for the s/s tubes to arrive from China. I will update my build blog for everyone shortly when I have got the frames in place but your ideas and tips have been a great help. Thank you.😊😊
Cheers Duncan.

ESC's appeared to have failed after 5 minutes use

Hi Roy,
Hope you have had a good weekend. This afternoon I decided to try out the motors and the rudder servo with the cheap ESC's and a WTail mixer. Everything worked fine for about 5 minutes and then it all failed. I tested the receiver first on another model and that was fine. I then tried it through the mixer and it work OK at full power so I came to the conclusion that it was both the ESC's failing. I had cut the red wire on one of the ESC's like you suggested so the receiver would only get 6volts. I think you said you had ordered 15 ESC's at a good price but I'm not sure if they are the same type as I got off Ebay.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295583083823
They were £6.83 for two when I bought them.
I've been busy trying to work out where to place all the R/C gear and the battery. The 4000mah battery is to big to fit anywhere so I'm using a 1700mah receiver battery for the test which I already had. Not sure if this will work Ok on the water though.
Any suggestions or comments greatly received. Thanks Duncan

Re: ESC's appeared to have failed after 5 minutes use

Hi Roy,
Thank you for your reply. The 2 motors that I'm using I got from Howes Models but they are not showing that particular one anymore. I have searched on the internet and found the same model of motor but even though it is the same part number the voltage range and RPM are all different! The model is MFA 457RE385 with a voltage range of 6v->15v with a speed of 11646RPM at 12volts. The nearest I could find with the same model number was 11000 RPM with the same voltage range. They are suppose to draw 0.85 amps on load. I also had a Howes Super Mini Servo 1160a mini rudder servo connected through the WTail mixer. In addition, I connected the winch but this was directly connected to the receiver but I suppose the power was coming through from one of the ESc's. The winch is a King Max 4 turns winch 4.5->6volts which is suppose to draw 1amp on load.
What make are your ESC's please as I will need to replace these with something more reliable? Thanks for your help. I'll update the build blog once I have had some positive progress!
Cheers Duncan

Historic ship models & tools

Hi RoyCV. Do you know any wooden-model historic ship enthusiasts / hobbyists on the South Coast, near Portsmouth?

I have a few wooden models of historic ships that my late father was working on, in various states of completion. As a former Royal Navy engineer (also named Roy coincidentally) he enjoyed researching and applying detail. So the models have had a lot of care and attention during their build.

Now he’s passed on, we’re keen to offer them (and his tools) to anyone with similar interests who would like to display them or pick-up where he left off?

This isn’t a money thing. We’re just keen to see the models go somewhere they’ll be appreciated. We owe that to Dad.

I’m only joined this community for this purpose, so would prefer it if you could respond direct to my email instead of within this community thread. I’m at jaloppey@gmail.com.

Would really appreciate any guidance you can offer, Roy.

Simon
