Hi Ronald I did not know there were 4 variations of Mary Ann? I know the kit has been 'updated' but I thought mainly just in construction. Some of the old brass items are now laser cut wood.

I would like to know how they differ please?
    regards
    Roy

I believe it to be one of the four variations of the Mary Ann.

Doug, I did some research and it is not the Gitte as the Billings kit places the pilot house door in the center where the model in question, its door is front corner on both sides of the pilot house, nor is it the Norden.

The kit has a wooden planked hull a built in the 80โ€™s.

Here's what I found when Googling Fishing Boat E714.
Even my boat sneaked in there somehow๐Ÿ˜ฎ
    Cheers, Doug

    Hi Roy,
    Try E714 not 718!
BTW: Esbjerg is also famous for it's 'Flying Ships'๐Ÿ˜‰
A flatbed scanner is the best way to get photos out of books.
You may need to experiment a bit with resolution and colour/B&W settings.

Hi Doug, I looked for your E718 in the very few numbers quoted but not there!

The book has photos that would never copy.

Roy, 'E' is the registration letter for Esbjerg on Denmark's North Sea coast.
Gina II, E714, was/is (?) also based there.
Most of these vessels seem to have been converted to Tour Boats, but there are still many around.

Hi Doug in Munchen, that is a nice boat you are restoring! By chance I watched a film called Suicide Mission. It is plotted around these boats and must have been made just after WW2.

The unusual thing is the engine sound you really can hear them coming as it is more like a gas engine with staccato bangs from the exhaust. That feature is even mentioned in the plot to identify one.

I have a Naval Intelligence identification book issued to ships operating in the N. Sea dated November 1942 and there are several grainy B/W photos of the fishing boats.

In all the pictures it shows the large winch mounted fore and aft. Much more logical when you consider the arched net haulers where the trawl boards are located.

Also not to forget the buoy carried attached to the shrouds as this is part of the fishing system.

    Regards
    Roy
