Help identify some hulls

Hi @LewZ, I took a look at aerofred, the “drawing” is a couple of pictures and a print and cutout for a cardboard model of the Scharnhorn. Nothing you could build from. If you want it, pm me. Drawing is for a 16.5 cm model.

Well, the two larger hulls (Nelson/Rodney and Warrior) now have new homes.

After sorting the River Gunboat Paddle Steamer I bought from the same auction I’ve been doing lots of reading about Paddle Steamers and have decided to keep the Waverley. Will have to store it for a while as this will be a major project but I’m enjoying building to 1:48 with the BYMS so a 60” 1:48 Waverley could be fun.

Help identify some hulls

Well, made the decision to sell 3 of the larger hulls, I went to the auction to buy 2 boats, came back with 9. It is tempting to keep the Waverley but I have enough projects to keep me going for a few years, and a couple of other boats I want to build.

Am keeping the Shaarhorn, the Aerokit Sea Rover copy, RAF launch, narrowboat and the Dumas Coast Guard kit will be built next year.

The three largest hulls and the HMS Crane kit are now on ebay, if they sell that’ll be great, if they don’t then I’ll have to revisit the project list!

Well, I tried this "aerofred.com" site and well... I had lots of issues. What a bummer as it looked like an answer to what many seem to be asking about: plans and drawings.

1. If you are unregistered there is no search option on the site. You can sort, i.e. boats, planes, etc., but no search for a particular item.

2. The "register" experience on a mobile phone is horrible, small boxes show only partial info and no way of seeing the password ("*****"). Constant errors with the verification process.

3. You can find a specific item ("Schaarhorn" in this case) by using Google search as "aerofred.com Schaarhorn" and you should get to the item. However... (next)

4. You can't access any thing usable unless you register and that can be the next step in frustration, even on my PC.

5. If you are lucky enough to register when you want to download the free pdf - WOW - you have to download two applications to get anywhere (I assume., I decided to interrupt this process and uninstall the apps >>>). I looked those up and the were considered "do no harm to your computer" but do take over browsers.
(NOTHING LIKE INSTALLING SOMETHING YOU MIGH REGRET HAVING.)

This was way to much for me to continue with, perhaps someone else might do better. I found this very suspicious having all this to just download some free pdf files.

More reading on "OneLaunch" found on Reddit: While not specifically malware, the actions and liberties it takes on a computer is very close to it. This what is called a browser hijack tool. They effectively force ads and search results from their "partners" to drive traffic and such to them. Desktop toolbars are nonsense software now. No one needs them for anything and will often be told they need to download and install it to proceed with whatever they are doing.

That site should be aerofred.com - I was curious so I checked it out. I'm having problems logging in to their phone app, will try later on my PC.

That's about the price of a Flysky 6 an an esc. Is that printed on parchment and shipped in a round tube so the drawings are not creased?

From what I've seen on the site I linked it looks like most of the details are there. Just adds to the challenge of builld I mg this model.

Thanks LewZ

I contacted the main dealer (Jotika) to see if I could buy the plans, they want £46 for the plans, more than I paid for the lot of 2 boats, 4 hulls and a kit!

I don't see any complete plans directly☹️. However😊, if you can't find full plans here are some links you will probably be able to use if you don't mind gathering pieces if information (mainly measure) using photos like these:

There are much moore, and you need to search for them using "Schaarhorn Steam Yacht Model drawings".

Here is how (I use Chrome): Sort by "Images", select on one of the drawings, and in the drawing/picture wind in Chrome (upper right) right click on the image and select "Open image in new tab". Now go to that tab (usually the next one to the right) and you can save or print it. Next, get out your ruler...(I guess you know the rest!).

This is a good way to get at those kind of "hidden" files. I use this often and I hope this works for you!🤞

Just identified the smaller hull, no.3 - a 1:35 Caldercraft Schaarhorn. I have the masts and some of the fittings, so think this will be a keeper, just need to track down the plans

It's looking like No 4 is a 1/72 model of HMS Warrior. The length and beam fit, just can't find anyone who made a 1/72 Warrior hull. It is amazing what you come across, I found the catalogue from Waverley Models on Archive.org as their site went down years ago.

What a great find! Well done. You snagged soem nice boats, congrats.
So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Help identify some hulls

Hi Colin

They were poorly described - see pic. When I went to the viewing the 4 hulls and various bits were in another room that most people didn’t see, I had to ask where the lot was.

There was one photo of the hulls that didn’t show any detail so anyone just looking online wouldn’t see what was there.

I’ll be selling the 3 largest hulls on EBay as I only wanted No 4, when I emptied all the timber and rubbish out found it has some nice brass props fitted and the hull contains other fittings.

It is tempting to keep them but I know I’ll never build them as they are too big and I have many projects already, might as well release them to people who will build them.

The Narrowboat is going to be converted to R/c by my dad and the RAF launch has already been converted, needs some winter fettling but will join my fleet of RAF craft.

Neil that's a great addition to your fleet, especially the P.S.WAVERLY.
It's lucky I hadn't seen the auction or we'd have been scrapping over them.
Cheers Colin.

Thank canabus.

That plan gives me all I need for the missing windscreen and rear supports. Shouldn’t take long to get that on the water as a winter project.

Looks like the large one is a 1/96 HMS Nelson or HMS Rodney. Found one on the Deans site, nearly fell off my chair when I saw the price.

Think the white/cream one in the first post is an Aerokits Sea Rover with a simplified rear cabin top

Edit: it is too short by 1.5” to be a Sea Rover, suspect it is as influenced by that design.

Neil, with regards to HMS Crane, a few photos of one I made some time ago.
Currently high and dry as the expression goes. She's in need of some TLC and new rc gear. Maybe a winter project.

Help identify some hulls

Today I virtually attended a local auction that had a number of model boats listed. Had been to view the lots yesterday, bid online today and have just been to collect them

Managed to get a Dumas US Coastguard kit for 1/4 of the current retail price, have checked and is complete.

Bought a lovely 1960s motor boat that was in the same lot as a Triang Crane, the crane will soon be in ebay as that will recoup most of that lot’s cost

Does anyone recognise the cream boat? Have a feeling it is a Vic Smeed design, hull is 28”.

The third lot is a bizarre collection, for £25 I got a plastic RAF launch (has been fitted with r/c), a small narrowboat and 4 hulls ranging from 5’ to nearly 7’. Going to need some help identifying them so I’ll add to this thread with posts about each hull, but you can see them nested in my workshop.
