Tails Of Wo

Sorry Pat, I forgot my first wooden ship (static not dynamic) was a kit. I don't want to be wrong but I think it was Mantua. I should check in the cellar to be sure.

Tails Of Wo

Hi Pat

Some time ago a modeler on this forum was looking for lifeboats to put on his ship. If I can find it I'll attach the link to that discussion.
I posted two links to the lifeboat section of the "Mantua" company in Mantua and "Amati" in Turin.
He was satisfied with the products (various well-made types) in different sizes and, if I remember correctly, he bought some.
These two companies, in addition to complete naval kits, have a truly complete range of accessories for static modeling.
They specialize in static modeling, not dynamic, mind you.
For me, who builds from scratch, having individual elements and accessories available is essential.
From personal experience I can tell you that I have never made online purchases with them because I have a reference shop in Rome that has the entire assortment and has a very efficient website.
So I have always bought Amati and Mantua products directly from this modeling shop in my city.
Only once did I buy Mantua products directly from the manufacturer in Mantua because I was there for work.
In reality I got the address wrong and went to the factory instead of the retail distribution point.
Nevertheless, two ladies in charge of shipping were very kind, they found me what I was looking for (even though I didn't even have a clear idea) and sold it to me anyway (with a regular receipt).
They wasted time with me even though my purchase was of very little value.
I have never bought complete ship kits but I think they are of good quality. As for the costs, judge for yourself but consider the material that is actually there. In fact I have heard some particularly expert modelers complain about some inaccuracies. It actually depends on how demanding the modeler is in terms of accuracy of details and historical accuracy. The most expert (true artists) disdain kits of any brand and rely on very accurate drawings and documents. Others use kits but customize them to make them better.
