Green Gunge Water at Southport.
Green Gunge.
I was surprised to see so much “green gunge” floating about on top of the Southport Model Boat Club lake this morning.
“Gunge” may not be a technically accurate term for the many small floating islands of the stuff that we had plenty of today, but it is a very descriptive term that I think will help to identify it to most of us.
When I run my boats on the lake a week ago, I was not aware of any, but this week it was impossible not to see it, or to not have it coating the hulls when any were lifted out of the water.
This slimy coating washed-off easily enough, but with no significant change in our generally hot and dry local weather that we have enjoyed/endured for the last few weeks, I am not sure why this “gunge” has decided to coat the surface of our lake today.
The water level is only slightly lower than “normal” (maybe 2” or so lower) so it was a strange thing to find waiting to greet us (and coat our hulls) this morning.
