I opted for the 4mm gold banana connectors as the old multI pole's were showing age. They can be a bit of a pain to solder at times. I now have a block of wood with drilled holes to stand them in during the process. My Lipo's use Deans and of course lead acid spade. if you have a lot of boats it becomes a major change over task. All my connectors come from eBay. For lights, smoke, sound fitted in the superstructure I fit the plug & sockets used on reciver packs, or tamiya connectors.

Over any period of time ALL connectors lose performance ( as do their owners).

Consider which you prefer a connector you can replace at pond side with hand tools or one you need to solder etc.

Low level yeah but over a period of time they break down, though the connection on the prongs, but it is personal preference.

It depends upon expected current flow. if your running a scale model I see no reason to not use Tamiya plugs!

Yes I know they have a less than sparkling performance figures BUT how often are you going to be drawing 20£

if your into fast electrics then Deans seem to be the flavour most liked by the in crowd.

Tamiya are available everywhere easy to fit and come as standard fittings on a lot of equipment. Consider how many Tamiya cars are bought and used each year. The current demands of these cars are not to be sneezed at yet the cars RUN ok not for serious racing perhaps but for general use they are fine.

HI 4mm banana plug have always been trouble worth a try or you could try deans plugs I no a few blokes the use them and have no problem, any thing got to be better than Tamiya connectors.hope this helps.
