If you want fast and light it may be time to take the plunge and go LiPo !!!!!

They do give a way better capacity/weight/current delivery than NiMh.

True they are a little more complex in their care and feeding but its not that difficult.

E-bay have several UK suppliers for this popular quadcopter motor. Try searching NEW 30A Brushless Motor Speed Controller RC BEC ESC For Quadcopter UK STOCK B5R9, listed for about a fiver. Forward only. As Mark says you need to use small props to avoid overloading the motor. Reviews suggest 11.1v works well but NiMhs will be fine. if you can get the use of a watt meter to measure the current this will make prop selection easier. if not I would reiterate Mark's comment, do a short circuit and check the temperature of motor, ESC and battery, it will be warm but if too hot to touch the prop is too big.
Will you post a video of the model on the water, please?

You need a minimum 20A ESC 30A would be better.

if you don't need reverse that will be ok ( just as an example)

Hi Frank, good place to start looking is the Banggood site, they are advertising on this forum, the stuff I have had from them is great quality and most is free post, the only drawback is the delivery time.

Look on the r/c airplane parts, I would suggest, a 50amp minimum, the extra cost of a 100amp is not much, probably cost about £15 - £20 with NiMh batteries not a problem, they work with both types, important mount the ESC on a heat sink to keep it cool, remember it normally would have a good airflow around it, with the motor you have so long as you don't use huge props it will be ok, do check after a short run that it's not getting hot

Hi Gents

I have 'come by' a brushless motor.
its part codes are
A2212/13T
1000KV

I would like to use it in a fast light boat possibly with hydrofoils

Can you tell me of a controller to run it......reverse is not absolutely nessessary and I would prefer to stick with NIMH batteries

the info on controllers is very confusing can't work it out!
