Hong Kong ESC

Thanks for that Peter.

I'm having to learn fast! I hadn't thought much about the Prop but of course its an integral part of the power chain. The one fitted is a black plastic with X40 stamped on it. Looks like it's 40mm Diameter.
The boat, when working did seem to roll quite a lot and I'm wondering if some of that might be down to the prop also.

Chris
sorry your controller couldnt take it... the curse of the blue hong kong controller strikes again!
I only ever tried one of those and funnily enough....

I use mtronics 20 or 25 speed controllers in all my speed 600 powered boats, the one in my crash tender has hundreds of hours on it and never a problem in fact none of them have needed replacing.

as for prop size, try a standard 40mm plastic 2 blader from j perkins, dont be tempted to put a 40X on as it just gets everything hot and kills the duration

anyway.. the boat was looking excellent on the video.. well done

Hong Kong ESC

I Have used this make for a very long time and paul is using this one in his very fast boat, Uk made and can be repaired , but a bit more expensive, the other one would be a Mtronic speed controler.
BUT YOU NEED THE CORRECT PROP or you will smoke any unit , start small with cheap plastic prop and do short runs and check the heat, and I mean one loop, and work up to when you are getting a little heat in the motor but not a lot you have to think about sailing in hot days when you do it , we have been using a data loger but there is a cheap unit that tells you the max amp's drawn. I will ask paul to put a post about it when he gets time it is very interesting.hear is my favouret speed controler , but there are other good uk ones.

Hong Kong ESC

As you will see elsewhere I tried out my new motor arrangement, ( Graupner speed 600 8.4v motor with a single 9.6v battery pack as recommended by dbninja ) In my 34" Fireboat today. All went very well at just above half throttle then I began to get braver and added on the power to be met by clouds of smoke and a truly blown ESC.

Yes It was a cheap ebay EL Model SE082 ESC allegedly rated at 110Amps, but the 20 Amp fuse I had In circuit was still Intact!

Just a warning to others who might contemplate trying one

Perhaps others using the same Motor and battery set up could share which ESC they are successfully using.
Best Wishes
