Brushless outboard...

Hi Westquay
I had the F1 outboard from Hobbyking which had a 28mm 3000kv motor.
I ran it on 3S with a 45Amp ESC.
Great unit, but, clean and regrease after each days running.
Also they did not have spare flex drives.
The flex drives do not last very long.
I had it on a 24" shallow vee, trim and balance right would run at full speed just on the prop!!!
Totally insane to drive.
I did not install to 2836-3700kv with 700Watts!!!

OK. I found the specs for a similar motor, a 2850-2650 2 pole in-runner.
Max continuous load current is given as 31A,
Max short term (60 seconds) current 40A.
Therefore you will need an ESC capable of handling 50 to 60A continuously. And put a MAX 40A fuse in it's + supply wire!!
Otherwise if the motor stalls (prop blocked with weed etc) it will melt and probably the ESC as well.
Have fun, especially tuning the motor timing 😁😁

I know nothing much about brushless, Doug, except these o/bs need a 2845 or 2850 of around 2500KV to fit. Either with built in water cooling, which makes them expensive or I can wind some tube round it like a lot of the 152VO guys do. it says BLMotor 2850 -2Pole on the case. And it's a 2600Kv. Be here some time in August.
I'm sure if it doesn't work in the o/b, it'll go in one of my other speedboats where the motor isn't decided yet. Sorry I can't be more specific, but there isn't much on the specs in the advert and all you've asked for wouldn't have meant much to me anyway.

Weird! First the post doesn't appear - then twice??

" And no, I ain't buying a watt meter! Got enough stuff I don't know how to use." An' I thought you were a tight arse!?
Yet you waste money buying stuff you don't know about and don't buy the cheap kit that can help you find out and make the best use of it.
Don't make no sense Martin!

Hmm! A 'Pig in a Poke'?
Do you at least know who made it / sells it and what the model number is?

Oh, Gawd knows, mate! Doesn't say on the advert. And no, I ain't buying a watt meter! Got enough stuff I don't know how to use.

Maybe it'll say on a bit of paper when it turns up?

But what are the specs Martin? Esp. stall current, max running current and current at max efficiency?
That's what defines the ESC you need.

As Doug suggests, a new topic for this. The Motor is a 2845 of 2600Kv. I have no idea what the shaft diameter is so may have an adaptor to turn there. The guys what makes the rules for 152VO say 2 or 3 S, but there is a formula that takes in S number, prop size and Kv and it should all add up to some magic figure which escapes me. If anyone's interested, I'll look it up. The website, a very good one, is in German and really doesn't translate well!
