HMS Vanguard

Vanguard was the last battleship ever launched but the last to be completed was the French 'Jean Bart'. 'Jean Bart' was launched in 1940, but not commissioned until 1949.

Goodnight from Up All Night Nerys.

Generally a maximum of 10° Dodgy, max elevation 30°.
so in at the out and out at the in was my first thought as well 👍
With the rifling (almost two full turns) you might get a bit dizzy on the way down though 🤕
Given a 15" x 43.33 calibre gun the slide would be around 54' 2" 😮

HMS Vanguard

Presumably that was when she took King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Elizabeth on a state visit to South Africa in 1947. Launched in 1944 and not finished until 1946, Vanguard never saw active service, she was the last battleship built for the Royal Navy. I remember seeing her at Coronation Review of the fleet at Spithead in 1953. She spent the rest of her career with the Home Fleet, going into reserve in 1956 and to the breakers in 1960

Maybe, if you slid down on a mat...?

I wonder how far the barrels could depress? To get a decent slide angle you would probably have to enter via the muzzle and exit via the breech.....

HMS Vanguard

As a small boy - very disappointed that I was too young to go on board Vanguard to the party they gave when visiting the Cape. Not sure if it was Capetown or Simonstown Dock - but I had to watch as my elder brother went , and one of the highlights was they used one of the guns as a kiddy slide - according to him - would it have been possible with the rifling etc ?
