depending on the width of the transom, what about "Port of London Authority", for a more official looking title to either a Pilot, or Police unit.
I only thought that boats showed "registered port" if they were likely to travel to different ports so to speak. if simply sticking to one specific area, then it was not a requirement.

It appears to me , most people with "pleasure boats" only add the port of origin for decoration.

Plus it looks good, I do admit!

I have a robbe fireboat and that actually has its port of origin on the stern, so that just runs round, with "dusseldorf" on, no name or number as the fire service dont show the identity number to the rear, only visible on the roof, as an "aerial marking".

Have tried to find out the answer but have had no joy.
My feelings are that the port name may not be on smaller vessels just on larger ships, but I may be wrong.
Other members may Know better.

Thanks for the quick response, its a good start.

Say for example, my Patrol boat becomes a Police Launch working on the Thames. Looking at the pictures on your link, it could be based at either Waterloo or Wapping (Correct me if I'm wrong). Would the Thames or the name of the dock me listed on the transom -

POLICE

Robert Peel
River Thames
Wapping

Would it just say Wapping or something ... Division...?

Have looked on the link and it appears that the Thames Police boats were all named I.e John Harriot (1947-1963).
