I have not bought a milling machine as of yet, don't have the budget right now.

That Warco looks good, particularly the 600w motor and the 4 jaw chuck, both of which are on my lathe. Really like the 4 jaw, take a little practice learning to set up, but it great to use. See tips on the web for how to adjust hold of work.

    Hi
I have also a 7 x14 Lathe also X2 Mini mill also from Seig but under another name, this mill is ideal for small stuff. Otherwise, you start at
    a large semi industrial mill

    Thanks Joe.
I will purchase one quite soon.I have looked at this model and agree that it looks good. My particular interest has been on the Warco WM 180. I will do a little more research.
Do you have a milling machine in your workshop. If so, which one did you choose and how do you like it.
    Thanks.
    Peter.

    Peter,
I purchased a 7x14 mini lathe sold by Grizzly in the States. It is basically a Sieg Chinese Lathe that's sold under a number of names, all made by Sieg. I am happy that I bought the larger size 7x14 as it handles a lot of project sizes.

However, it's was a big investment in time to get it running correctly. It took about a month to get it up and running right. Took care to research all of the prep necessary to unbox and setup. First, did not run due to bad switch. Then the motor required replacing. Then the motor control board. Note that Grizzly was very good about sending all replacement parts fast under warranty, good customer service!

A lot of effort, eventually I completely tore it down and rebuilt with upgraded bearings, gears, etc. I am happy with it now and it runs great! Very pleased.

As to cost, it was about $900 USD to purchase. I spent several hundred in upgrades and like all of them, such as tool holders, tools, etc.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. Thanks for the interest.
    Joe

Have a look at any build done by Mike Turpin and Robob. You will see how small machines can be used.

    Hi Joe.
I want to buy a bench top lathe soon. Can you say which one you bought. I want to make parts for my Submarine and brass fittings upgrades for my upcoming 46" Crash Tender and Tamar Class Lifeboat.
    Peter.

This past year I added to my small garage shop. Bought a small Metal Lathe and am enjoying using it.
Any ideas for model boat related projects? Your ideas would be appreciated as I just like to build stuff.
