the prop I've fitted is 44mm , 4 blade brass , running on 7.2v she raises out of the water a treat .

only 7.2 v and planing ?

I'm trying a larger motor 900 and 12 V and it is not planing - I must be doing something wrong

Prop is a two bladed 50 mm dia - do you think I should be fitting a three balded one ?

Have you got a picture of your present set up ? another member had the opposite with his 34" boat it tried to turn in side out, I also had a similar problem as you with my 34" boat it would not turn at speed, I moved the rudder forward towards the prop and it sorted it out.
